Nayanthara's goodbye to Kollywood?

Is Nayanthara saying goodbye to Kollywood? The writing is 'on the screen', as she has completed all her current assignments and moved on.

Her Rajesh-directed Boss Engira Baskaran (BEB) with Arya, is likely to be her last release in Tamil. She has Shyama Prasad's arthouse Electra in Malayalam and the mass commercial Symbol with Upendra in Kannada to release.

Nayanthara has been refusing to sign some of the biggest projects in Tamil and Telugu with superstars, besides a Bollywood film with a top star! Says a rival actress, "Can you believe that she said 'no' to director Siddique, who offered her a chance to be Salman Khan's heroine in the Hindi remake of her Malayalam film Bodyguard? " The industry feedback is that Nayan has matured as an actress of substance and has a phenomenal fan following. In fact, trade experts think that she is the only actress in Kollywood who commands an opening!

All this has made her BEB hot in the trade circuit, especially after the trailer and songs of the film have started playing on television channels. Says Arya, "Nayanthara is simply terrific in BEB. She really loved doing the film, and kept on saying that Chandrika (her character in the film) is similar to what she is in real life; practical, level-headed and independent. Watch her in the comedy scenes, along with Santhanam, and me... she's sure to bring the house down! I don't know if it'll be her last film in Tamil; that, you'll have to ask her and Prabhu Deva. But one thing is sure — BEB will be the most memorable film in her career."

Meanwhile, sources close to Nayanthara state, "Nayan has given up her career as her priority is to marry Prabhu Deva. They are made for each other and are just waiting to legalise their relationship, the moment Prabhu's divorce from his wife comes through." Prabhu's family has accepted Nayan and she is said to be the darling of household. Recently, the couple is said to have exchanged garlands during a big pooja and homam performed by Sundaram master (Prabhu's dad) in which the couple exchanged garlands.

Prabhu Deva is now more open about his relationship with Nayanthara. He took her with him to Paris during the shoot of Jayam Ravi's Ich, a film which he's directing. A source adds, "Last Tuesday, they were spotted at a Vadapalani theatre holding hands and watching Karthi's Naan Mahaan Alla." Currently, the lovebirds are in Malshej Ghat on the location of Santosh Sivan's Urumi, in which Prabhu Deva plays a pivotal role along with Prithviraj and Genelia. It looks like movies don't excite Nayan any more, as she is now learning cooking and believes in the old adage that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. toi

Drohi Trailer

Here is the trailer of the upcoming Tamil movie Drohi:

Prabu Deva and the English Connection

Harris, who is scoring for the film Ich, has tweeted that he's recorded a full fledged English track for the film. The song is sung by Emce Jayze, Kriss and Renaina according to his tweet. He also said that he hoped the song works for the movie. So far, full fledged English songs used to be part of movies that had white actors in it. Ich, however, does not seem to have any firang actors, not in the lead at least.

Ich, directed by Prabhu Deva, has Jayam Ravi and Hansika in the lead roles. Prabhu Deva has been working with Harris Jayaraj for the composition of songs.

Yuvan has fiercely denied rumors about him composing background score for the Hindi movie Aakrosh. Earlier there were speculations that the Priyadarshan directed movie will have Yuvan's BGM. Songs for Aakrosh are composed by Pritam.

Yuvan is currently busy scoring for Avan Ivan and Aadhi Bhagavan. Yuvan has let out that the tracks of Avan Ivan will have no western influence.

The audio of Boss Engiran Baskaran was launched at the Sathyam Cinemas complex on August 27th, 2010 with a host of celebrities attending the event. Suriya, as reported earlier, released the first copy of the CD and music director Harris Jayaraj received it.

Though the film’s lead star Arya was present, its leading lady Nayanthara did not make it to the audio launch. Yuvan Shankar Raja had scored the music for this film. Three songs from the film and a trailer were showcased for the audience and everyone was at awe at the way they were filmed.

The film’s distributor Udayanidhi Stalin, producer KS Srinivasan, Parthiban, Rama Narayanan, G Dhananjayan, director Vijay, Ravi K Chandran, Amirtham, T Siva and Santhanam were present at this audio launch function.

Actor Bala, who had starred in Tamil films like Kadhal Kisu Kisu and Manjal Veyil, got married to Amritha Suresh on August 27th, 2010 at the Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur at 12:30 pm. The couple was engaged last year after the two met at a reality show for a Malayalam television channel in which Bala was the judge and Amritha was a participant.

The newlyweds will host a reception for the Malayalam film fraternity on September 5th in Kochi.

Evergreen director Bharathiraja is back to do what he does best. After a short break after Bommalattam, Bharathiraja has announced his next directorial venture. Titled 'Thenkizhakku Seemaiyile', this movie will star the director himself in a main role. What makes this movie more interesting is that directors Cheran, Ameer and Seeman will be Bharathiraja's sons in the movie. Ravi Varman will be capturing the varying hues of the villages of the south.

Talks are also on to rope in Harris Jeyaraj as the music director. It will be a treat to watch all these giants together on the silver screen. Watch this space for more updates.

Charmi to shake leg with Nag

Pretty and bubbly beauty Charmi will dance with Nagarjuna in his new project with director Veeru Potla.

According to executive producer of the movie Chandann Reddy of the movie, the introduction song of Nagarjuna will have Charmi dancing to the tunes of young music director Thaman. As published in the web pages of IndiaGlitz before, Nag will play a role of a Rayalaseema guy and we can guess if his intro song will be on the lines of a folk song.

Our guesses will be true when further reports of the movie come out. The movie’s choreographer is Raju Sundaram, who has choreographed some of the best dance moves in South India. Charmi’s an energetic dancer and Nag’s a man of grace, lets see how the magic is created on screen.

Nag and Charmi ignited the screens in ‘Mass’ before.

Krisha Signs two

The production house Talking Times that gave two differently made films ‘Alibaba' and 'Katrathu Kalavu' is up and ready for their next. It is is producing two films simultaneously.

As thought by many Krishna himself is playing the male lead in both the films. One will be directed by A. Venkatesh and the other will be directed by 'Kunkuma poovum Konju Puravum’ director Rajmohan.

Interestingly Talking Times is the home banner of Krishna. He and his brother director Vishnuvardhan are in charge of the productions.

Krishna's last film 'Katrathu Kalavu' was a small budget film that did decent business in B&C districts.

Rahman’s CWG song today

After a few changes in the tune and the lyrics, the much awaited and much delayed anthem of the Commonwealth Games, composed by Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman, is ready for release today.

According to a statement by the Organising Committee of the Games, the music maestro will be performing the whole song at the first hearing on Saturday. Rahman has inserted the word ‘India’ a few more times in the lyrics and made the tempo peppier, sources said.

It may be recalled Rahman had earlier crooned the opening lines of the song at an event in New Delhi, saying that the song still needed some work before he could unveil it. “When you hear the song you feel like India is calling you. I want the crowd to sing along,” he said.

He added: “We have put in a lot of hard work and we are all very excited to turn it into a memorable experience. I am curious to know how older, intelligent people, who have years of wisdom, will react to it. The song is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of this great nation.”

RGV talks about Suriya again

There is no stopping for Ram Gopal Varma from heaping laurels on Suriya. The director is so impressed with the actor and is in complete awe about his performance in their forthcoming film ‘Raktha Charithra’.

The filmmaker, who had earlier penned a long post on Suriya on his blog, told a Tamil tabloid, “Suriya is a complete actor. His eyes are so powerful. They spit fire all the time. I just can’t stop admiring his eyes.”

Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Varma, who is controversy’s favourite child, has kicked off a fresh debate on Friday while speaking at the launch of his Telugu film ‘Katha-Screenplay-Darsakathvam Appalraju’ held at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad.

He along with lyricist Kaluva Sai wrote a song with all the top directors by name and took potshots at them. Those who came under attack from RGV include K Raghavendra Rao, Gunasekhar, Gopal, Puri Jagannath, Kodi Ramakrishna and Krishnavamsi.

He didn’t stop taking potshots at Nagarjuna too, saying he never stood in a long queue to get tickets for Nagarjuna’s movies. Did someone talk about guts now?

Happy birthday to Prasanna

Prasanna is celebrating his birthday today. And this year he has a special reason to celebrate the special day in a big way. For, he will be acting in six films to be directed by one director- Rajjan Madhav.

First in the list will be ‘Muran’, in which the actor will share the screen space with Cheran. “After completing Muran, we will work together for six films,” says Prasanna, who is brimming with optimism.

“I know Rajjan Madhav right from Kanda Naal Mudhal days. At that time, he narrated to me a story titled Nee Vanthathum. But the project failed to take off due to unavoidable reasons”, Prasanna recalls.

“But our friendship continued and he narrated me a few more scripts. One among them is Muran. Since I loved all the scripts, we will be working on them one by one,” he says. Ask him about his birthday resolution, Prasanna says, “I will take extra care henceforth while choosing films.”

Mani proud about his student

The happy guru in Mani Ratnam marked his presence on Friday, when ‘Vandhan Vendran’, a film directed by his former associate Kannan, was launched at a grand function in Chennai.

“I feel immensely happy and proud to see Kannan’s growth. He has started climbing on the steps of success and has more milestones in life. I will always there to support him,” the ace filmmaker said.

In his address, protagonist of the film Jiiva said, “I would always make sure that I act in one film at a time. But I am doing four films at present (‘Ko’, ‘Singam Puli’, ‘Rowthiram’ and ‘Vandhan Vendran’), as all of them come with powerful scripts.”

Kannan said, “We have taken enough care to ensure that the screenplay is very different. The romance part in ‘Vandhan Vendran’ is freshly treated. Understanding the youthful theme of the film, Thaman S scores bubbly music. As usual, Pattukottai Prabhakar’s dialogues will be trendy and sharp.”

Others who had attended the launch function were AVM Saravanan, R B Chowdary, TFPC president Rama Narayanan, Theatre Owners Association chief Abirami Ramanathan, FEFSI president V C Guhanathan, Sun Pictures CEO Hansraj Saxena and G Dhananjayan of Moserbaer amongst others.

Speaking at the DVD launch of the Aamir Khan starrer in Mumbai, the filmmaker said, “The movie will be soon made in Tamil and Telugu. But I don’t know who will play the lead there.”
