‘Four Friends’ leads the list

With the arrival of few new movies in Mollywood, the list of the Box Office's best has shown considerable differences from the previous weeks. And as expected the multi-starrer from Saji Surendran 'Four Friends' has opened to good initials to top the list.
1. Four friends - Though there are mixed opinions about the movie, it registered good initials in the first two days. This third movie from Saji Surendran has a very interesting cast composing of Jayaram, Jayasuriya, Boban Kunchakko, Meera Jasmine, Siddhique, Salimkumar, Ganesh Kumar and Suraj Venjarmoodu, which itself is the USP of the movie. Add to that the presence of universal star Kamal Haasan in a special cameo, it is not surprising for the movie with such a good pre-publicity to jump to the top spot from the day one. It remains to be seen how far this collections sustain in the case of 'Four Friends'.
2. Anwar - Though the interest in the movie is getting thinner, the stylish movie from Amal Neerad still registers good collections all across. The presence of Lal, Prakash Raj and Mamtha Mohandas, together with the sensitive topic and interesting visualisations add to list of the highlights of the movie which had a very good first two weeks, as far as the collections are concerned. 'Anwar' remains the second solo hit from Prithviraj after 'Puthiya Mugam' which came out last year.
3. Cocktail - Slowly emerging to the chart tops is 'Cocktail'- a low budget thriller from debutant director Arunkumar. The movie based on an English flick is wisely redone to suit the mood and interests of the desi audience. Featuring Anoop Menon, Jayasuriya and Samvrutha Sunil in the lead, ‘Cocktail’ is expected to become an earner even with a short run.
4. Endhiran - The Rajinikanth magic is still on. The magnum opus science fiction 'Endhiran' from Shankar is till ruling the theatres in majority of the centres, though the initial frenzy ness had died out. Now the movie remains the hot favourite of families and children.
5. Elsamma Enna Annkutty - This Lal Jose starer has ended up as the black horse among the Ramzan releases. The movie into its fifty days continues in 14 of its release centres with satisfactory collections. Also in theatres are Mohanlal's 'Shikaar', Mammootty's 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' and Suresh Gopi's 'Sadgamaya', continuing with average collections.

Prithviraj in ‘Season’ remake

There is one more film being added to the remake list of Prithviraj. The young superstar of Mollywood will replay the role Jeevan lived by Mohanlal in the remake of the 1989 film 'Season', written and directed by the late P. Padmarajan.
The movie portrayed the of drug mafia in the beaches of Kovalam. Mohanlal played an innocent trader selling foreign goods in the beaches. He is falsely framed for three murders, including that of his two friends who is actually killed by the drug mafia.
Though the movie was not a hit at the box office, the sensitive portrayal of the lead character by Mohanlal was well appreciated. Padmarajan's realistic story-telling style also came for praises. All hope the changed times would do justice to the story now.

'Doubles' starts this November last

Megastar Mammootty will join the sets of his new movie 'Doubles' by the end of November. Featuring him in the role of Giri, the movie will have Nadiya Moidhu making a comeback to Malayalam, playing his twin sister 'Gowri' in the movie. It is after a gap of more than twenty years that Mammootty is joining Nadiya for a movie.
Scheduled to be shot at Goa and Pondicherry, the movie will have interesting narratives by Sachi- Sethu. Debutant director Sohan Seenulal will call the shots of the movie which will have Mumbai model Tapsee as Mammootty's heroine. 'Subrahmaniapuram' fame James Vasanthan will debut into Malayalam as the music director with this movie while P Sukumar will handle the camera section.
'Doubles' produced by K K Narayanadas in the banner of 'Dreams on Wheels' will reach the theatres as a late January release.

Poonam Bawja in a double

Hot girl, Poonam Bawja, will debut in Malayalam playing a double role. She will be donning a twin roles in the new movie tentatively titled as ‘Shikaari’, opposite Mammootty.
Interestingly, the megastar also appear in a double role in the movie, which is a bilingual directed by Abhay Simha. The actress who finds it extremely difficult to understand and spell even a single word in Malayalam, is taken care of by the megastar, who is taking time to teach his co-star and get the best out of her.
Meanwhile, the latest news is that the production crew may change the title of the movie to 'Nayattu', instead of the present title, as a Mohanlal movie titled 'Shikaar' is running successfully in theatres currently.

Mammootty, busy with functions

The shooting of the new 'August15' holds a special record. The movie will have megastar Mammootty shooting an entire film in Thriuvananthapuram, after a gap of many years. And this seems to end up in shifting of many functions with the megastar, to the capital city.
Ever since the actor was in Thiruvananthapuram, he is busy attending a number of functions every evening. Last week he was in the pooja function of ‘Bangkok Summer’, a youth movie by Pramod -Pappan which will be shot entirely at foreign locales. The megastar lit the ceremonial lamp in the pooja ceremony of the movie, which will be scripted by Rajesh Jayaraman.
Mammootty was also seen in audio release functions of films like 'College Days' which will grace the theatres soon. Mammootty is also surrounded by the TV channels for special interviews, as the capital city remains the headquarters of the television industry and most of the Television channels operating in Malayalam.

Mohanlal gets UAE driving license

For Mohanlal, Dubai is like his second home as he shuttles between the Gulf and India on regular basis for personal and professional reasons.
So with too many commitments in Dubai, Mohanlal thought it would be nice to have an UAE driving license for himself and applied for one. UAE driving license is one of the difficult things to own. But Lalettan appeared for his driving test and cleared it on his first try.
He took the regular 20 classes only and made it in his first attempt itself. El Fateh Abdul Baqi Eljack, the General Manager of Dubai Driving Center which trained Mohanlal said he is very surprised at the finesse with which the actor cleared all the tests.

The objective of the horror scenes was not just to frighten the audiences, though they get a feel of it. Definitely the film would give a new experiences to all those who watch the movie. The scenes that were shot in Vikarabad forests would be quite interesting. Charmme’s performance is an asset for the movie’. Camera is by Dasarathi Sivendra and music is by Viswa.

Vinay and Genelia to pair

He is like a long lost actor who disappeared after ‘Modhi Vilayadu’. Vinay who made an impressive debut in Kollywood with 'Unnale Unnale' was touted to be the new chocolate boy who would get into Madhavan's shoes.

But lady luck had other plans and Vinay was at her mercy. Even the successful family entertainer ‘Jayam Kondaan’ did not help him much. But Vinay has got a second chance and he hopes to get his things right this time.

Shankar's former assistant and producer-director Madhesh who was waiting for Vijay's call sheet for long has settled for Vinay for his next film. It is a dream offer for Vinay. Madhesh has also roped Genelia to be the leading lady of the film. Santhanam and Ganja Karuppu are also in the film that has finally ended up as a star value film.

An old Rajinikanth film title is being considered and Madhesh is running around to get the required permission to re-use the old title.

‘Boys’ to speak in Hindi

The global success of ‘Endhiran’ has made Shankar a hot cake in Bollywood. While most of his films were already either dubbed or remade in Hindi, attempts are now being made to take ‘Boys’ to Bollywood.
Besides Shankar, another advantage the film has got is its star cast. For Siddarth and Genelia, the lead players of the movie, are popular faces in the north. Adding more to it is the music by A R Rahman.
All these factors have combined together to dub and release the film in Hindi, sources say. It is said Bollywood veteran Abbas Tyrewala will take care of Hindi lyrics and dialogues.
“Sri Suriya Movies, which produced ‘Boys’, has started working on the dubbing process. Accompanied by aggressive promotions, the Hindi version of Shankar’s product will make its way to screens soon”, sources add.

Censor gives ‘A’ to RGV’s Rakta Charitra

Ramgopal Varma, who is in the thick of controversies, submitted his latest trilingual film, ‘Rakta Charitra’, which was simultaneously made in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages, for censor certification.
The Andhra Pradesh State Board of Film Certification aka Censor Board awarded ‘A’ certificate on the expected lines.
RGV himself claimed that it was highly action-oriented film with lots of bloodshed. As the board objected to use the word Anantapuram in the film, the makers changed it to Anandapuram.
According to RGV’s posting in Twitter, the film is slated for release on October 21. The entire film unit is planning to go to Anantapur to watch the film along with the audiences on the first day to note down the reaction from them.
Basically the film was made with the real life incidents that led to the murder of Paritala Ravindra and the factional violence that is marring the region for quite few decades.
Vivek Oberoi, Suriya, Priyamani are playing the lead roles in the film. As the length of the film was quite long, the producer cum director is planning to release the film in two parts in a gap of one month or 50 days.
The Hindi version is expected to be released one day latter, i.e., on October 22.

Rajini getting serious on 'Baasha-2'

The news has been in the rounds for sometime. While speaking at a RM Veerappan family function Rajini said that, to produce another movie like ‘Baasha’ is possible only by RMV and Sathya Movies. That was a perceived as a message and Sathya Movies began scripting for a sequel to ‘Baasha’ starring the one and only super star.
As nobody, neither Rajini nor RM Veerappan, denied the developments everyone believed in the making of ‘Baasha-2’. Now with another buzz coming in, it is almost certain that Rajini's next film will be ‘Baasha-2’ produced by Sathya Movies.
Sources say that Rajini before embarking on his spiritual journey to the Himalayas went and met RM Veerappan discussed the project. Rajini is said to have told Sathya Movies to get the script ready and if the script is ready by the time he returns he will immediately take up the project.
These very positive signs have put Sathya Movies in top gear after almost 20 years. ‘Baasha’ was the last film produced by Sathya Movies after which it was lying low. Now with Rajini backing up the revival of the legendary banner is imminent.

Vikram under 'BEB' Rajesh

Director Rajesh is on top after just two films. His 'Siva Manasula Sakthi' and 'Boss Engira Baskaran' have taken him to the big league with reports suggesting that he is paid in crores for his upcoming films.
Rajesh's situational comedies have a unique style and that feel good comedies has too many takers. Proof... 'Boss Engira Baskaran' is back to regular shows withstanding the 'Endhiran' tsunami for two weeks. ‘BEB’ is into its fifth successful week.
After ‘BEB’, Rajesh will be directing Udhayanidhi Stalin in a romantic comedy and then will move on to a film with Vikram. Yes folks, Cheeyan Vikram.

Vikram of late has been walking out of projects just like that and nobody was able to figure out where Cheeyan was heading. The last news we heard about Vikram was that he had confirmed a film 'Deivamagan' with ‘Madrasapattinam’ Vijay.
After that, sources say, Vikram has finalised a film under Rajesh. Rajesh is expected to travel in his familiar route with Vikram and it is going to be a new experience for Cheeyan who has not done an outright comedy till date.

Rajini meets Sanjay Dutt

Superstar Rajinikanth recently met his good friend and Bollywood top star Sanjay Dutt. If sources are to be believed, the meeting took place at Bengaluru airport lounge a few days ago.
It is said that the top star of south India was at Bengaluru to check out the feedback to his recent venture 'Endhiran' and Sanju for the promotions of 'Knock Out'.
"Both were pleasantly shocked to see each other. They guffawed and hugged more than once. And they exchanged pleasantries for a while much to the amuse of the other travellers", sources say.
Rajini and Sanjay share a very good rapport for decades now and the two actors had worked together in 'Khoon Ka Karz' in the early 1990s. During that time, Rajini ensured that Sanju had breakfasts at his home, it is said.
