After India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets Saturday, skipper M.S. Dhoni, who hit 91 runs and the winning six, was declared the Man of the Match, but Akshay believes it should have been shared with Gambhir, who scored 97.
"What could be the better way to finish the match? Dhoni just hit a six and we won the match. We needed three runs he added three more to it," Akshay told reporters at his Juhu residence Sudnay morning.
"The way he (Gambhir) pulled the match (for India), the Man of the Match award should have been shared by both Dhoni and Gambhir," added the actor who played a cricketer in his last release "Patiala House".
Gambhir's partnership with Virat Kohli helped rebuild the innings when India were tottering at 31/2 after the early departure of openers VirenderSehwag (0) and Sachin Tendulkar (18).
Akshay watched the match with Farah Khan's family, Sajid Khan and Vindoo Dara Singh

I don't totally agree with AKSHAY KUMAR.
ReplyDeleteBecause......he should not have said that GAMBHIR should also be shared man of the match. He
must have said that GAMBHIR must be given the man of the match as he was the "REAL MAN OF
THE MATCH" of the world cup final 2011. If in case has to share the Man of the Match it must
have been KOHLI who gave the real support when India was almost lost.
At the place of Dhoni either Yuvraj or Raina would have done the job because GAMBHIR & KOHLI
have already crossed half the score by the time DHONI came in and Gambhir was departed only
just 50 runs behind of winning target with 6 wickets in hand of which YUVRAJ (4 times man of
the match winner) & RAINA (2 times played key role in winning) were still to come up.
So, their's nothing special about Dhoni's knock but 'JUST LUCK' as he justified his decision
of taking SREESANTH into World Cup Final's squad keeping aside all rounder ASHWIN (played
key role in 2 matches one of which is against Australia) as his buddy PIYUSH CHAWLA didn't
get chance he doesn't like ASHWIN who was taken as an alternative for PIYUSH claiming that
it was "JUST LUCK" because SREESANTH is in the team which was a very arrogent answer knowing
that he was awarded man of the match and the only match he luckly plaid in the the whole
tournament but not that much worth as either of GAMBHIR or KOHLI.
Don't forget DHONI'S selfish knock against South Africa when SACHIN made 200 cenury
(actually his score would have been something around 230-240) if DHONI had really rotated
the strike to SACHIN but he just tried to play maximum number of balls by giving only 10/42
balls to SACHIN when he is on 189. And some fans even thought to kill DHONI if he don't give
the chance to SACHIN to perform "RARE FEAT" when is blocked SACHIN for 2.3 overs when he is
on 199.
DHONI just was lucky enough, but not the real match winner. There are other team members who
really worked hard to win this world cup.
I say this because he is as a Captain also poor (selfish) in management whenver SACHIN
knocks a ton. Against both England & South Africa India was 300+ and both matches were not
won by India because DHONI let the bowling to hit more by the opposition. And the same
reason he took SREESANTH in the final if in case Sachin makes one more feat of 100th ton
then he can use SREESANTH poor bowling to give around 70-80 runs to opposition so that there
would be chances for them to win and demish Sachin' knock with India's lose. So, he is very
clever captain (selfish and tactical).
Don't think I don't like Dhoni, I admired him once upon a time but when he started being
selfish and started playing politics then I started to analyze him.
DO REMEMBER THAT GAUTAM GAMBHIR SACRIFICED HIS MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD TO KOHLI ON HIS FIRST
ODI CENTURY AGAINST SRILANKA EARLIER. BUT DHONI LACK THIS SPORTSMANSHIP WHO NOT EVEN
COMMENTED AT LEAST TO SHARE THE MAN OF THE MATCH WITH GAUTAM GAMBHIR AND THAT'S WHY I SAY HE
IS SELFISH AND LUCKY TOO :-)
Anyway we were the WORLD CHAMPIONS for the second time with.....

SACHIN - 2nd Heighest run getter
ZAHEER - Highest Wicked taker
GAMBHIR - Match Saving innings in final and also good average through the tournament
KOHLI- Consitent play through the tournament giving good partnerships
RAINA - Match winning knocks in crucial times in important matches
ASHWIN - Best performance in both the matches he played
MUNAF - Consistent bowling through the tournament
and other team members co-operation
resulting in ICC WORLD CUP 2011 WON BY INDIA.
