Raviteja to enter Tamil industry

Mass Maharaja Raviteja is on a high ever since his last few films have done exceptionally well at the box office. Sources now say he is all set to enter Tamil film industry too with the remake of 'Band Baaja Baarat' which will go on floors soon. We hear that he will be paired with Trisha in the remake of 'Band Baaja Baarat' which will be shot in both Tamil and Telugu. Apparently Ravi Teja wants to increase his market and hence is planning to act in both Telugu and Tamil versions.

Already, Maheshbabu, Ramcharan, NTR, Nagarjuna, Sharwanand, Nani and Navdeep act in Tamil films or release the dubbed version of their movies in Tamil. Raviteja now wants to join their league and try exploring Tamil market with this remake.

The director, technicians, co-stars and other crew of this bi-lingual remake is yet to be officially announced. Ravi Teja is currently acting in 'Veera' starring Kajal and Taapsee.

Haripriya says no to Hindi

Sandalwood top actress Haripriya, who is making her presence felt in Tamil film industry too, has rejected an offer to act in a Bollywood movie, as her “focus is only on south Indian movies.”

“Because I would be forced to say no to at least four southern films had I accepted the Hindi offer,” says the ‘Vallakottai’ actress, who is now gearing up for the release of ‘Muran’.

On the ‘Cheran-Prasanna’ starrer, she says, “It is an intense story which deals about contradictions in human lives. And I am happy to say that I have a meaty role to perform in Muran.”

Hoping ‘Muran’ to be a turning point in her career, she says, “The film would sure take me to the audience in a big way.” Haripriya also claims she is currently part of three projects in Kannada.

Piaa smiles, cries

Piaa Bajpai is in a state of ecstasy. The ‘Poi Solla Porom’ and ‘Goa’ girl couldn’t control smiling even as her eyes busy producing ‘ananda kanneer’, all due to one reason- her recent release ‘Ko’.

Talking to journalists in Chennai Monday, she said, “On this happy occasion, I would like to thank each and everyone who had worked with me in Ko, which is one of the important films in my career.”

“Director K V Anand and writers Suba would tell me that my role in the film would be received well by the masses. I realised it when I watched the movie at a cinema hall in Chennai last weekend,” she said.

The actress added: “My character Saro could have faced a sad ending. But she had given me a reason to smile. All thanks to Anand. I am looking forward for more such rewarding roles in the future.”

IPL: Warriors bow to Kings

Even after three games on the surface, the Chepauk wicket remained a mystery for the Chennai Super Kings batsmen. Not to speak of the men from the visiting team, Pune Warriors. After MS Dhoni's men laboured to 142 for six in 20 overs, the Pune team's batsmen looked clueless at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to lose the Indian Premier League match by 25 runs on Monday night.


In a poor exhibition for Twenty20 cricket, the Pune-Chennai contest was reduced to which team was less uncomfortable in the conditions. Pune  naturally looked delighted when they restricted the home team to a run rate of 7.10 but their smiles vanished once their batsmen took the crease.

Their top four were back in the hut before the sixth over with the score on 40. With five wickets in hand and 50 needed off 30 balls, Pune could only manage five runs in the 16th over and four runs each in the 17th and 18th overs. That too, with Yuvraj at the crease. From 93 for five, at the 15-over mark, Pune finished at 117 for nine. 

Even after spending enough time at the crease, the batsmen never looked to be in. Pune skipper Yuvraj is in the touch of his life, having won the Player of the Tournament at the World Cup, but against Chennai the way he struggled to get the ball past the square it appeared as if he was in the midst of a wretched run.

Timing eluded Mike Hussey, the topscorer of the match, even after reaching his half century. He scored 61 off 48 balls but the innings was far from fluent.

Dhoni, who walked in at No 4 with the intent of stepping up the run rate, failed to break the shackles and three big hits was all he could manage. During their third wicket partnership of 52 runs in 6.4 overs, Dhoni and Hussey were made to work hard for each run after joining forces in the 11th over. The spinners were on at that time and the duo were restricted to just three runs of the 11th over, five off the 12th and four off the 14th.

With just 99 runs on the board after 15 overs, the local supporters hoped the ploy was to keep wickets and give the charge in the final five. The final charge never came.

Prithvi ties the marital knot

Finally, it is confirmed. The media men who were after the young superstar Prithviraj for quite some weeks trying to match the bits and pieces of information regarding the news about his marriage plans, will have a sigh of relief as it is confirmed that he tied the marital knot today.

The most popular young star of Mollywood married Supriya Menon, a B B C reporter, today in a very private function at Palakkad which was attended by less than 50 person, including his close relatives and friends. Supriya hailing from Palakkad is reported to be in close relation with the star actor for around three years. The marriage was solemnized at Thenkurissi Kandaath heritage Villa, the bride's place. Supriya is the lone daughter of Vijay Kumar Menon and Padmaja residing at Mumbai. Born in Kerala, she done her schooling from Mumbai and later her graduation in journalism from University of London. She joined BBC in 2007, after working for many famous National TV channels and concentrates on rural reporting.

Prithviraj who commented in many interviews earlier about beautiful girls who doesn't match his intellectual levels is said to have been attracted to the intellect of the lady who is a hardworking journalist.

Prithvi's fans and admirers are indeed surprised why their favourite actor has maintained so much suspense and mystery over his marriage. Reports are that the bride and groom will hold a special reception on the first of May at Le Meridian hotel, Kochi, where the distinguished members of the public and film fraternity will be invited.

Delhi Daredevils beat Pune Warriors by three wkts

Pune Warriors captain Yuvraj Singh produced an impressive all-round performance, but failed to stop Delhi Daredevils from posting a thrilling three-wicket win in the Indian Premier League on Sunday. Yuvraj top-scored with an unbeaten 66 to help Pune reach a challenging 187-5 before Delhi achieved the stiff target with four balls to spare for their first victory in three matches in the Twenty20 tournament.

Delhi needed eight to win off the last over after left-arm spinner Yuvraj had finished with 4-29, but Australian James Hopes (13 not out) smashed a six and a four off successive deliveries from New Zealand seamer Jesse Ryder.

Australian David Warner (46) and skipper Virender Sehwag (37) gave Delhi a solid start when they added 75 for the opening wicket before Venugopal Rao (31) and Aaron Finch (25) contributed crucial runs in the closing stages.

Pune, who suffered their first defeat in three games, were earlier indebted to Yuvraj and Ryder (60) for setting a big target.

Yuvraj cracked five sixes, including three in the last over bowled by seamer Ashok Dinda, in his 32-ball knock and Ryder also hit five sixes in his 27-ball innings.

Ryder played a key role in putting his team on course for a big total, dominating a 54-run stand for the second wicket with Mithun Manhas (20) after the early dismissal of South African opener Graeme Smith (12).

He looked in excellent touch from the beginning as he hit two sixes in the first over of the innings off spinner Rao.

Ryder completed his half-century with an aggressive shot when he lofted left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem over long-on for a six before falling in the same over.

Nadeem and Dinda finished with two wickets apiece.

DC vs KXIP: Kings XI Punjab crush Deccan Chargers by 8 wickets

HYDERABAD: There is something magical about Adam Gilchrist. Though age may have reduced his reflexes a bit and his batting prowess may not be as awesome as it used to be but his cricketing brains are as sharp as they were in his hey days. 

On Saturday, the wizard of Oz pulled out another trick from his bag to help Kings XI Punjab score a comprehensive eight wicket win with 14 balls to spare against Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. 

If it was Paul Valthaty the batsmen that slew Chennai Super Kings in the previous game than it was Valthaty the all-rounder that defused Deccan's Charge in front of a near full house. Gilchrist's golden boy turned in a magical spell with the cherry to restrict the hosts to 165 for eight and then came up with his brand of power hitting that put paid to the aspirations of the Chargers to steam ahead with back to back wins. 

Chasing 166, Punjab answered Chargers fiery attack with some fearsome power hitting as Gilchrist and Valthaty tore into the Chargers pacers. In the power vs pace battle, the Punjab firepower prevailed over the famed Chargers's pace. Runs came in torrents as Valthaty struck some lusty blows to get the Kings XI off to a blistering start. Not to be left behind, Gilchrist soon joined the party and won the race to the half-century as he lofted leggie Amit Mishra straight to the sight screen. He took 30 balls to get to the landmark while striking five fours and three sixes. 

Valthaty was not going to be left behind as he too reached the 50-run mark with a six of spinner JP Duminy. He took five more balls than his illustrious partner but then raced ahead with another six off Duminy in the same over. 

Chargers finally got a breakthrough when the impressive Mishra had Gilchrist (61; 46b, 5x4, 3x6) caught at the square leg fence by Ravi Teja with the score reading 136. Valthaty unleashed some more of his superb blows to take the visitors nearer to the rival score before falling to Mishra being caught by Ishant at long on. Valthaty struck 75 off 47 balls with eight fours and five sixes. 

Earlier at 81 for one at the end of the 10th over, it looked as if Chargers were set for a huge total but it was then that Gilchrist conjured up some magic. With Shikhar Dhawan and Kumar Sangakkara running riot, Gilchrist brought on Piyush Chawla from the far end and the leg spinner obliged his skipper by inducing Sangakkara (35) to go for a sweep which ended in McLaren's hands at the midwicket fence. 

But the real stroke of genius was when Gilchrist in the very next over tossed the ball to Valthaty.

CSK vs RCB: Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 21 runs

CHENNAI: He came, he saw, he conquered. Veteran Aussie Mike Hussey landed in the city on Thursday, practised on Friday and produced a match-winning innings on Saturday that helped Chennai Super Kings notch up their second victory of the IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore helped Hussey's cause by dropping him twice, but it doesn't take anything away from the Aussie's effort.

184 was a big ask on this MA Chidambaram track and once RCB lost Tillakaratne Dilshan on the second ball, they were never really in the hunt. Virat Kohli (35 off 28 balls) and AB de Villiers (65 off 44 balls) did try to put up a fight, but the asking rate had already gone beyond 12 by then. Once Kohli got out, there wasn't much hope. CSK won by 21 runs. 

Hussey was the backbone of CSK's effort. It's not always easy getting used to the pace of the MA Chidambaram Stadium, but it was hardly an issue for the 36-year-old. He looked as comfortable as anyone else during his unbeaten knock of 83 on a hot Saturday afternoon. He used his feet beautifully to the pacers as well as the spinners and played the anchor's role to perfection as the other CSK batsmen threw their bats around him. 

Daniel Vettori was extremely unhappy when Mohammad Kaif dropped Hussey early on at mid-on. Vettori has seen the Aussie play many a match-winning knock and it seemed he knew straightaway that the old pro could run away with the game. 

The beauty of Hussey's batting is that runs simply flow. He hardly takes risks, waits for the loose balls and makes use of the opportunities that come his way. There was a time in the middle-overs when Vettori was settling down into a nice rhythm. Even as his partner MS Dhoni struggled just a bit to break the shackles, Hussey played a couple of brutal slog-sweeps that went for sixes and the pressure was immediately released. 

The likes of Vijay, Suresh Raina and Dhoni also deserve praise for the way they approached the situation. The boundaries never dried up and that helped CSK get about 20 runs more than the par score on this Chepauk track.

Suriya in Shankar’s next?

Shankar is the man with the golden touch and there is no doubt that all the leading stars want to work with him. It is also well known that Suriya is one of the most commercially viable stars in tinsel town today. With this being the present scenario, the two may join hands to create box office magic. The director is working at a rapid pace to finish his remake of 3 Idiots, Nanban in record time. Once that is finished he is eager to get started on a fresh project. The script is ready and word is that Suriya will be doing the lead role.

The actor was supposed to work with Shankar in Nanban but that did not pan out. This time around it looks like everything has fallen into place for the top star as well as the ace director. This combination is sure to be a winning one as both are perfectionists with amazing track records at the box office.

The role that beckoned Sneha to Bollywood

Smiling beauty Sneha had been too busy in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films till date that she never agreed to do a Hindi film though opportunities came her way. But now the lady has agreed to try her luck in Bollywood.

Her debut will be with veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. Sources in Kollywood say that Sneha is so happy to get an opportunity to share the screen space with Naseeruddin Shah and she decided to lap it up. In this film titled Mad Dad to be directed by Revathy Verma of June R fame, she will play Naseeruddin Shah's wife and mom to a grown up daughter to be played by Aysha Takia.

Mamtha in 'Leela'

Talented young actress Mamtha Mohandas seems to be passing through one of the best years in her career. The latest of the great news surrounding her is that she had  been called by directer Renjith to don the title character in his dream movie 'Leela'.The movie which will have Ranjith's associate Shankar Ramakrishnan as the hero is based on a short story by R unni.The shoot for the movie is  scheduled to start in a few weeks.

Apart from this big role, Mamtha Mohandas will also be seen in meaty roles in many new films in the pipeline. She will be donning the heroine role of famous Narayani, in the new movie 'Mathilukalkkapuram', which is a sequel to Adoor's famous 'Mathilukal'. The movie will have the megastar also as a producer.Mamtha will also don the heroine in the new movie 'Naayika' to be directed by Jayaraj.

Apart from these films, Mamtha Mohandas has agreed to be in a commercial fare in the new movie from Prithvriaj titled as 'Shinkaravelan' to be directed by Deepan.Anyhow, its seems that Mamtha will once again become the star of the year in Mollywood in 2011 also.

Lal for a cameo in 'Sevens'

Joshy has gifted Mohanlal with the first super hit of the year in his 'Christian Brothers' which is  very well received by his fans and masses. The senior  director of Mollywood is in a mood, not to let the superstar go. The stories doing the rounds tells that Mohanlal will  be seen in a cameo in the Joshy's new movie with youngsters titled as 'Sevens'. Prasanna in Mollywood

Tamil actor Prasanna who become famous with movies like ' Achamundu Achamundu', Azhagiya theeye' Sadhu mirandaal' and ' Anjaathe' will be shortly seen in Malayalam. The actor was earlier planning to make a debut in Mollywood with the movie 'Lucky Jockers'. But in the last minute the actor has backed out from the movie leaving the lead role to Ajmal. Now Prasanna will debut in Malayalam playing an important role with Janapriyanayakan Dileep in the new movie  directed by Akku Akbar. Kavya Madhavan will be the heroine of this yet to be titled movie which is currently on sets.

Lakshmi Prasanna to play village belle

Lakshmi Prasanna, who made her debut on the big screen in Tollywood with ‘Anaganaga O Dheerudu’ earned critical acclaim for her performance, though the film was commercially turned out to be a flop.

Presently she is busy on the small screen by hosting TV shows in popular channels with programmes like ‘Premato Mee Lakshmi and Lakshmi Talk Show’. Not only this, she is producing a film called ‘Oo Kodathara Ulikki Padathara’ with her younger brother Manoj.

The latest buzz is that she had launched another film on her own banner titled ‘Gundello Godari’, which is claimed to be a periodic film, wherein she is portraying the role of a village belle.

Illayaraja is scoring music for the movie. While a new-comer Kumar is wielding the megaphone.

Film world shares Chithra’s grief

‘Sruthi’, Chithra’s residence in Virugambakkam, wore a grim look on Friday when the body of Nandana, the singer’s daughter who drowned in a swimming pool at a villa in Dubai Thursday, was brought there.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life, including top names in singing and acting arenas, came to pay their last respects to Chithra’s eight-year-old daughter and consoled Chithra, who wept uncontrollably.

Music composers Illayaraja, Koti and Ganesh, playback singers P Susila, S Janaki, S P Balasubramanyam, Mano, S P Shylaja and Sujatha, actors Sivakumar, Ajith, Shalini and many others from the film industry paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of the child.

The last rites were held at 4.30 pm at the Vadapalani AVM Funeral Ground. Nandana had fallen into the pool and though she was rushed to the hospital, she was declared dead. She was in Dubai with her mother, who was there to take part in an A R Rahman concert.

Happy tiding comes for all STR fans. ‘Vaanam’ which sees STR as hero after a hiatus post his ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is touted to hit theatres by this month’s end. The film will be brought to theatres by Cloud Nine Movies of Dhayanidhi Alagiri in Association with VTV Productions and Magic Box Pictures. The shooting of the film is complete and the sound and music tracks have been included.

‘Vaanam’ which released in Telugu to packed houses was directed by Krish who is wielding the camera for the Tamil version too. The film is getting readied to face the censor board. ‘Vaanam’ sees STR heading the film with effective contributions from Bharath, Anushka, Prakash Raj, Saranya, Santhanam, Vega, and Sonia Agarwal in supporting roles. This film marks Sonia’s re-entry into films.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has tuned the songs for the film which consists of five tracks. There is one song which has been written and crooned by STR. The music album of the film which recently hit the stands is selling well; credits to the Simbu-Yuvan combo, they seem to have impressed the youth again with young and peppy numbers.

Nirav Shah has panned the cinematography and the film has been crisped by deft editing in the hands of Antony Gonsalvez.

‘VTV’ Ganesh and R. Ganesh who have produced the film have revealed that they plan to release ‘Vaanam’ on April 29th.

No tension between Dhoni & me: Yuvraj

MUMBAI: Yuvraj Singh was a star long before MS Dhoni made his debut for Team India. But in the years since then, Dhoni's career has followed a relentlessly upward trajectory while Yuvraj's has waxed and waned. 

Does Yuvi ever feel resentful? Is there any truth to the talk of there being a strained relationship between the two? 

We put the question to Yuvraj, and he dismissed it immediately. "MS and I have a very good relationship. He's always backed me and I've always supported him. So I don't understand where all this speculation comes from." 

Was it true that he and Dhoni were once interested in the same young woman, a popular Bollywood actress? "I read that too" he quipped. 

Yuvraj went on to effusively praise Dhoni. "He's one guy who grasps things very quickly and has really transformed his game. Youngsters can learn a lot from him. And I think he has handled the captaincy really well." 

However, Yuvraj added, jokingly, that he did have a grouse against Dhoni. "He never invited me for his wedding! I tease him about it at least 10 times a day. I told him when I get married, I will invite the whole team but I will make sure he will be dancing outside the gate," chuckled Yuvraj.

DD vs MI: Malinga's 'fiver' helps Mumbai rout Delhi by eight wickets

NEW DELHI: Lasith Malinga bowled yorkers at will as his deadly five-wicket burst helped Mumbai Indians crush Delhi Daredevils by eight wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday. 

Electing to bat, Daredevils were shot out for a meagre 95 in 17.4 overs. The collapse was a combination of hostile bowling from the Lankan speedster, helped by some poor shot selection by the home team batsmen at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground. 

Mumbai Indians never looked in any sort of hurry as they cruised to the target in 16.5 overs with skipper Sachin Tendulkar scoring an unbeaten 46 (50 balls, 3x4, 1x6). 

While Rohit Sharma's contribution in the 68-run third wicket partnership was an unbeaten 27 (30 balls, 3x4). 

The match was supposed to be a fight between Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag but it was the Sri Lankan slinger who emerged as the hero in the end. 

Malinga's figures read a stunning 3.4-1-13-5 with four of them being cleaned up unplayable yorkers. It is the third best figure in the IPL after Sohail Tanveer (6/14 for Rajasthan Royals) and Anil Kumble's (5/5) efforts. 

For the capacity crowd at the Kotla, it turned out to be utterly disappointing as five of the Delhi Daredevils batsmen went without troubling the scorers. 

Malinga's effort was all the more laudable as Kotla track is considered to be not so conducive for pacers. After Kemar Roach's hostile spell against the Netherlands in the World Cup, Malinga again showed that raw pace can be intimidating for the lesser known players. 

Barring Sehwag, this Delhi Daredevils team doesn't have good enough players to survive the rigours of top flight Twenty20 and it was proved in the manner they faced the Mumbai Indians bowling. 

The Kotla track may be on the slower side but it was inept batting by the Delhi Daredevils top-order that led to their downfall. 

Sehwag had the crowd roaring when he danced down the track to effortlessly lift Harbhajan Singh over long-off for a six. 

Malinga got into the act in the second over as he pegged the home team back with a twin blow in the very second over. The normally dangerous David Warner (1) failed to dig out a toe-crushing yorker from Malinga, while the 17-year-old Unmukt Chand's IPL debut was a forgettable one as he was out after a couple of deliveries. 

The youngster who has never faced anything above medium fast at the domestic level tried to smash a Malinga delivery that was fast and full. Unmukt's feet were rooted in his crease and the ball cannoned into the middle stump. 

The sell-out crowd at the stadium who were expecting some fireworks from Sehwag were left high and dry as skipper was run-out for 19 (16 balls, 2x4, 1x6). It was totally Sehwag's call after striker Aaron Finch played it to short-fine leg. 

The Daredevils captain who was at the non-striker end called for the single knowing fully well that ball went straight to Sachin Tendulkar stationed at that position. 

Tendulkar's direct throw caught Sehwag couple of feet short of his ground. 

Finch (8) was the fourth Delhi batsmen to be dismissed when he tried to sweep a flighted delivery from Harbhajan but the top edge was well caught by Ambati Rayudu at deep backward square leg. 

With the team precariously placed at 40 for four, India discards Naman Ojha (29, 30 balls, 2x4, 1x6) and Venugopal Rao (26, 25 balls, 3x4) added 42 runs for the fifth wicket but were never able to shift gears apart from hitting an odd boundary. 

Finally, Ojha ran out of patience and was caught by Malinga at long-on trying to hoist left-arm spinner Ali Murtaza. 

Irfan Pathan's (0) was a brief stay at the wicket as he went for non-existent single and failed to return back. 

Malinga then came back for his second spell to clean up Venugopal and Morne Morkel (0) with couple of unplayable yorkers. 

He finished his five-wicket haul with a slower, which Dinda lobbed to James Franklin at mid-off.
