The famous phrase 'Dinasari Naangu Kaatchigal' may find its way out, as the Tamil Nadu theatre owners association has requested the State government to allow its members to run five shows a day.
Speaking to reporters after a general council meeting of the association in Chennai on Monday, President Abirami Ramanathan said, "These days, many films run for nearly two hours. So it will be helpful if the government allows us to screen five shows daily."
He also urged the government to regulate ticket prices in cinema halls all over the State, and fix the prices according to the grades of the theatres. "We have decided not to charge more than the rates fixed by the government," he said.
Elaborating on the resolutions passed at the meeting, he said the association thanked Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for giving tax exemption to films with some conditions. He also said there were complaints against few theatres that they were charging exorbitant rates for parking and snacks.
