Deivathirumagal Movie Review-For the Family

Deivathirumagal stars Vikram,Baby Sarah,Anushka,Amala Paul, and Santhanam in the lead roles. Its directed and written by Madrasapattinam fame, A.L Vijay. Music is by G.V Prakash,Cinematography is handled by Nirav Shah, and Edited by Anthony. DTM was also released in Telugu as Nanna.

Story: Nila(Baby Sarah) gets taken away from her father,Krishna(Vikram), by Swetha(Amala Paul) and her father(Sachin Khedekar); because he is a mentally challenged adult. Nila was born to Krishna and Swetha's older sister. How Krishna, and his lawyers: Anuradha(Anushka),Vinod(Santhanam),Priya(Priya) help him gain custody of Nila forms the rest of the story.

Performances: Vikram was outstanding! He had that childish innocence completely in him, we could feel what he was feeling throughout. Its amazing to see him be so flawless in his act.  Sarah is another great performer, totally on par with Vikram in terms of performance, and a cute little thing too. Anushka, this is definitely one of her best performances in Tamil till date, her role had power. Santhanam had a good role too, though comical, his role had scope. Anuska and Santhanam were a nice comedy pair. Amala Paul, her role was a bit small, but she performed well in what she had. But she did seem a bit stiff in some scenes.

Direction: All of us know that DTM is an adaption of the American film I am Sam. But Vijay hasn't taken all the scenes from I am Sam, he has only taken the basic plot. It's Indian to the T. Vijay does a great job in catering everything needed for the family audience, such as comedy, sentiment, a bit of romance, etc. Not to forget, the flow of the movie, everything transitions smoothly, though the song Vizhigalil oru Vanavil didn't seem to be needed. But overall, he has done a nice job.

Cinematography and Editing: Nirav Shah, is one of the most sought after cinematographers in Kollywood, and he lives up to his name in every single movie. Its movies like DTM that make him popular.  He knows exactly when to give what type of tone to which scene. Vizhigalil oru Vanavil ix exceptionally beautiful; Anushka looks gorgeous, so do her surroundings. The credit for the flow of the movie goes to Anthony, his job has been well done, but still a bit iffy on Vizhigalil oru Vanavil.

Music: G.V Prakash, totally steals our hearts with the Background music, exceptionally done. His BGM adds to the emotions of a particular scene, the BGM
itself makes you cry. When it comes to the songs, sadly G.V Prakash has plagiarized two songs: Pa Pa Pappa(Walt Disneys Robhin Hood) and Jagada thorn(Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan's Truth). Music seems average,my picks are: Vizhigalil oru Vanavil,Pa Pa Pappa,Aariro, and Vennilave.

Pros:

  • Performances
  • Cast
  • Direction/Story
  • Cinematography
  • Editing
  • BGM
  • Some of the Music
  • Family entertainer
  • Vikram and Sarah, workout so well as father and daughter
  • Court Scene at the end

Cons:

  • Vizhigalil oru Vanavil, seemed a bit out of place, wasn't really needed..
  • Plagiarizing of the two songs.
  • Credit hadn't been given to I am Sam, which should happen.

Final Say: Watch it, you WILL cry more than a bucketful, for sure. Its heartbreaking but, touching, the end is a bit unexpected. Watch it for sure! You will not regret it! Take your whole family! :)

Aishwarya Dhanush to debut as director with '3'

Dhanush is a happy man now, first it was the announcement of him bagging a National Award in 'Aadukalam', for his one-of-a-kind performance; then his father-in-law, Rajinikanth, who had taken ill all of a sudden and had gone to Singapore is back to hometown, Chennai, safe and sound.

Now the Dhanush's - hubby and wife Aishwarya Dhanush are devoting all their time for their upcoming project which will be Aishwarya Dhanush's launch pad as director into films. Aishwarya has been concentrating on the script and direction, and is taking care of all aspects to have that picture perfect start as a director.

Now sources close to the film's team have revealed that the film has begun to shoot. The combination shots involving the film's lead pair Dhanush and Amala Paul will begin in less than a week, reveal insiders. The music for this film will be by Anirudh, and Kola Bhasker will be in charge of the editing.

Anirudh will be debuting as music director with this film. He has earlier done a lot of jingles and also lent his musical genius to short films. Another interesting aspect is that while Anirudh was a student he was awarded a prize for being the best instrumentalist in a competition by none other that A.R. Rahman, and Anirudh played the keyboard on that day.

We guess his music should be really watched out for!

The project has been attractively titled '3'. Now will it be called "Three" or "Mundru" or will it just remain a plain numerical "3", and does it have any connection with the characters in the film? These are the many doubts that will storm the minds of Dhanush fans once they get to know about the title.

We will shed light on that when we receive confirmed news from reliable people.

Say hello to Aishwarya Dhanush's team...

We all know that Aishwarya Dhanush is turning director and is wielding the megaphone with her husband, Dhanush playing the protagonist. Amala Paul plays the female lead in this film.

Now the grapevine has it that this yet-to-be titled project will have tunes composed by a debutant music director, Anirudh. Dhanush had expressed that although the music composer is new, he is doing a great job and the couple has faith in his work. It may be mentioned that it was earlier speculated that GV Prakash who is a good friend of the family, will compose the tunes.

Anirudh has already composed a single track and those who have listened to it vouch that it will be a chartbuster.

This film is by RK Productions and the cinematography is by Velraj.

Amala Paul dubs for 'Vettai'

Although Amala Paul had worked in a few projects before 'Mynaa', this damsel from Kerala shot to fame and was recognized by critics only after working in this Prabhu Solomon offering. She is now being considered as a promising young talent in the Tamil film industry and has bagged herself some interesting projects with big names.

Grapevine has it that in her forthcoming film, 'Vettai', a multi-starrer directed by Lingusamy, Amala Paul will dub her own voice! 'Vettai' has Madhavan, Arya, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul essaying lead roles and is gearing up for a diwali release.

IG had reported the rage the trailer of 'Vettai' is setting in theaters, that has Madhavan in a scene that makes one look back to earlier Maddy - Lingu blockbuster offering, 'Run', that released almost a decade ago.

An actor dubbing their own voice opens up chances of being recognized by prominent award committees and leading directors. Way to go girl...

Amala Paul not in Mysskin's Mugamoodi

Director Mysskin is currently busy with the pre-production work of Mugamoodi which will have Jiiva in the lead. In this film, Jiiva will play the role of a super hero, which means he is all set to become Tamil cinema's first super hero. Mugamoodi will be the first super hero movie for UTV in Tamil. There were reports that Kollywood's latest sensation Amala Paul would play the female lead but the actress rubbished these reports, saying she is not a part of the film.

Narain, who has earlier worked with Mysskin in the blockbuster Anjathey, will play the villain. Narain and Jiiva will undergo special martial arts training with experts flown in from China. A super hero lies in every one of us; this forms the basic crux of Mugamoodi. It is said that consultants from IIT will create hi-end gadgets for the film and the super hero costumes will be designed by select teams from NIFT. The hunt for the heroine is on.

The film is expected to go on floors in September 2011 and will grace theatres in 2012.

'Mugamoodi' - Tidbits unraveled!

Jiiva is running from pillar to post. The reason - he has signed a number of films, and good ones all that! The actor recently signed for Mysskin's project titled 'Mugamoodi,' the shoot for which will begin in the next couple of months. The pre-production work is going on in full swing and Narain will be seen opposite Jiiva in a negative shade.

The film's storyline deals with a superhero subject - way different from the films that have so far churned out from Mysskin tag. The film, it is suggested, revolves around the belief that there is a superhero within each one which comes out during in a stiff situation. The male leads are believed to be training hard from the Shaolin Temple, China, for getting their mind and body into the martial arts, which is the main ingredient in the film.

There were some reports in a section of media that Mysskin has been impressed with the portfolio of Amala Paul and might rope her in to pair opposite Jiiva in this project, but the actress has rubbished all that revealing she is not a part of this Mysskin venture.

Usually superhero projects have little or no scope of heroines to perform, as the superhero and super villain grab the limelight, in this case it will be Jiiva and Narain who will lap up all credits! But considering the flamboyance of this project the team might be on the look out for a big name for the heroine...

Some sources also suggest that those from IIT will be designing some state-of-the-art gadgets to be used in the film and the costumes and the looks for the characters will be from NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology). The film will have a good dose of special effects which will be done by a Los Angeles-based firm. Buzz is around Kollywood that the director is planning to import stunt men from Hong Kong.

It looks like Mysskin is getting the best in the industry to pull this film off. 'Mugamoodi' is touted to release during the summer of 2012 and will pull children and adults to theatres alike!

Amala not in Indian Rupee

Mynaa fame Amala Paul, who debuted in films through Lal Jose's critically acclaimed Neelathamara, has denied rumours that she will be the heroine in writer-director-producer Ranjith’s Indian Rupee, starring Prithviraj in the lead.

The actress however confirmed that she was offered the lead role, but had to refuse since the makers wanted immediate dates in July, which would result in date clashes with her other film Muppozhudhum Un Karpanai. The actress also said that she loves to do Malayalam films, but right now her priorities are in Tamil.

Amala Paul in 'Indian rupee'

Director Renjith who had given career best roles to actors like Priya Mani, Revathy and Navya Nair will offer Amala Paul, another meaty role through his new movie 'Indian rupee'. The actress who shot to fame with the recent Tamil hit 'Mynah' will be paired opposite Prithviraj for this movie, which will be another classy affair from Renjith.

Amala, a malayalee from Ernakulam, had earlier been in Mollywood films like 'Neelathamara' and 'Ithu Nammude Katha', but in insignificant roles. The actress will be seen in big Tamil films of 2011 like 'Daivathirumagan' opposite Vikram and 'Vettai' opposite Madavan and Arya.

Amala Paul walks out of Murugadoss film

The first film produced by AR Murugadoss in association with the Hollywood studio Twentieth Century Fox has just had a casting hiccup. The film directed by a former associate of Murugadoss, Saravanan that started shooting from December 15 is now jolted as two of its main characters have walked out of the film.

First 'Kalavani' Vimal who was to play the second lead to Jai decided to let the film go. Then the important heroine Amala Paul also decided to leave the film for her own reasons. While Vimal has been replaced with the Telugu actor Sarvanand, Amala Paul's replacement is difficult to come by.

Though Vimal and Amala walked out of AR Murugadoss' film unplanned and with no common interests they have however ended up with a film directed by Pandiraj.

The award winning director has signed Vimal and Amala Paul for his next film which is again a village subject. The yet to be titled film is the third film for Pandiraj after the absorbing 'Vamsam’.
Is there anything called fate? Might as well check with Vimal and Amala.

‘Mynaa’ goes to Bollywood

One of the most acclaimed films of this year, ‘Mynaa’ is going to Bollywood for a remake. Director Prabhu Solomon himself is planning a Hindi version with all new faces.

Prabhu Solomon feels the story of ‘Mynaa’ is very pan Indian and he is confident that his film will be accepted in North India. The realistic film of childhood friendship that develops into love made waves by its sheer making style and the brilliant technical values.

Plans are afoot to start the Hindi remake in May next year. Meanwhile, ‘Mynaa’ has been selected for the 7th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival.

Murugadoss picks Amala and Anjali

A few days ago there were reports that AR Murugadoss has entered into an agreement with a Hollywood studio to produce a film. Then came the announcement that his associate Saravanan would direct this flick with Vimal and Jai in the lead.

This led to the speculation on who would be paired opposite these young heroes. The latest news on this is that Amala Paul, who has tasted success with Myna and bagged a role in Deiva Magan with Vikram and Anushka, and Angadi Theru fame Anjali will be the leading ladies.

The director and producer are looking for a suitable title for this film, which will go on floors earlier next year.

Vikram in Suseendran film

After his two big films ‘Kanthaswamy’ and ‘Raavanan’ not doing well, Vikram has now started taking personal interest in all aspects of his films apart from his acting.

Realising that only good scripts are going to take him forward, Vikram has said yes to a film to be directed by Suseendran. This film will start sometime in August next year. Suseedran after tasting big time popularity in ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ and ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is currently busy with the off beat film 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' produced by Gautham Menon.

Meanwhile Vikram is also putting pieces together to shift gear. He has walked out of the films of Boopathy Pandian and Vikram Kumar. Even his planned with Selvaraghavan is shelved. The only film committed by Vikram as his next is the one directed by 'Madraspattinam' Vijay which has Amala Paul as one of the heroines to Vikram.
