It's Prithviraj-Shriya in 'Hero'

Shriya will be back in Mollywood for yet another innings, and this time the southern siren will be splitting screen time with Malayalam heartthrob Prithviraj. The film has been titled 'Hero and Deepan will be calling the shots for this picture.

While some sections of the media had reported that Trisha will be roped in for this film which might have proved her launch pad to Mollywood, this has not materialized because of lack of dates available from the actress. But Trisha recently stated in an interview that she is open to do films in Malayalam as well as Hindi (apart from Tamil of course) if she gets good roles to perform.

Now this project with Prithvi and Shriya in the lead will take off sometime in November. This will be the second film the audience will see this pair on the silver screen, the first being 'Pokkiri Raja' which had Mega Star Mammootty in it.

'Hero' will be Shriya's third film in Malayalam. We will get back with more on this film as it starts to roll...

A change in Lal's 300th movie

Earlier in the initial promotions of his Onam starer 'Pranayam' directed by Blessy, Superstar Mohanlal himself has announced that this will be his 300th film and will be promoted likewise. And the latest we hear is that it will be Sathyan Anthikkad's new film and not 'Pranayam' that will promoted as lal's 300th film. The change of film is said to have come due to the intense pressure of the fans of the star, who wanted him in a full length role in his 300 film.

Sathyan anthikkad's latest movie is a family drama with adequate heroics, which will be a sure bet to end up as a hit, as the director has not met with a flop in his last eight years. Moreover, Blessy's 'Pranayam' have Lal in a role that just will fill less than half of the screen space. These are all the reasons that have prompted for a change in the 300th film of the Mollywood superstar.

Nayanthara becomes a Hindu!

"Diana is no more, Nayanthara to be known from now on. For some personal reasons I have followed Hinduism", expressed Nayanthara while speaking to her fans.

Nayanthara, who changed her name so for films, is a Christian by birth, and was earlier referred to as Diana Mariam Kurian, before her foray into the film industry. The latest is that, she has changed her religious faith to Hinduism on Sunday morning at a temple in North Chennai. After the rituals at the temple, she was given a certificate of conversion to Hinduism, with her Hindu name as Nayanthara.

Although the actress refused to spill the beans on the reason behind this name change and whether it was a move for her wedding with Prabhu Deva, she expressed that due to personal reasons she has become a Hindu by religion now.

Looks like we will soon hear Nayan - Prabhu's wedding bells ring...

Avenues galore for Karthika

Her first tryst with Tamil films was a roaring success. Starring opposite Jiiva in KV Anand's 'Ko', Karthika had a grand opening as a heroine in the Tamil film industry. Now after her first silver screen success, looks like the budding actress is also open to other avenues apart from acting.

She recently walked the ramp at Kochi for ace fashion designer Sanjana Jon sporting the latter's designer wear. Apart from Karthika a bevy of silver screen beauties like Kangana Ranaut, Mamta Mohandas, and Swetha Menon sashayed the ramp. So did ex-Miss World first runner up Parvathy Omanakuttan.

Apart from posing to innumerable cameras at the fashion event that was held at Kochi, Karthika might also get to play the same role she did in K.V. Anand's 'Ko' in its Bollywood remake, although nothing has been official...

Pranayam to be lal's 300th film

Antony Perumbavoor, superstar Mohanlal's man Friday, has been always successful with his productions under Aashirwaad banner and also with the marketing of Lal films, creating the hype and hoopla that will help the movies to paste the posters of 100 days. Now for Lal's Onam offering 'Pranayam', Antony has come up with a smart idea- that is to present the movie as the star's' 300th film as hero. In fact, the star has done much more movies than that, but the marketing plans seems to be concentrating on this central idea. As per the current plans the movie directed by Blessy will get to maximum theatres by the 7th of September.

Earlier, it was reported that Mohanlal may not have an Onam release, but later the makers of Pranayam has decided to speed up the proceedings so that they can get the the movie to theatres by the said date. There are also reports that Lal will just have a forty minutes appearance in the movie, whose major space will be occupied by characters played by Anupam Kher and jayapradha. But lal's forty minutes will be the highlight of the movie which will have him in every shades that will impress the fans and masses alike.

'Pranayam' will also feature Anoop Menon, Niyas, Nivedita and Dhanya Mary in other importnat roles. While Sathish Kurup is the film's DOP and the movie will feature music by M.Jayachandran.

'Salt'N Pepper' opens good

After a row of flops, finally a movie has opened to very good responses and initials. Aashiq Abu's 'Salt'N Pepper' is the new movie that has become the talk of the town with its very interesting premise and execution. The movie featuring Lal, Asif Ali, Shwetha Menon, Mydhili and Baburaj is a very fresh line of plot and narrative, never ever attempted in Mollywood. More in the patterns of a new generation film, Salt' N Pepepr' scripted by Shyam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair is likely to start a new trend in Malayalam, if promoted well.

The songs in the film by Biji Pal including 'Premikkumbol' and the title tracks by Aviyal are also very popular. Exceptionally shot by Shyju Khalid and directed by Aashiq Abu, this low budget movie is expected is turn a hit with a few weeks run.

Arjunan Saakshi Movie Review-Could have been better

Arjunan Saakshi stars Prithviraj,Ann Augustine in the lead roles, with Nedumundi Venu,Biju Menon,Suresh Krishna, and more in supporting roles. Cinematography by Ajayan Vincent, and editing done by Ranjan Abraham. Its directed by Ranjith Shankar, whose directed Passenger in 2009,which was a hit.

Plot: AS is basically about how an Architect,Roy Matthew(Prithviraj), gets trapped in serious situation; and how he solves it. Through it he understands the position of Gods Own Country(Kerala).

Performances: Prithviraj, not bad at all, AS was not a film in which he acted differently than others. Ann Augustine was apt in her character she had, although it was not  a lengthy one, it sure was a character that makes the story change. All others were good too.

Music: Music was by Bijipal, sadly not anything great to talk about.

Cinematography and Editing: The camera work by Ajayan Vincent IS something to talk about. The crash scene was wonderfully captured. As the viewer, it truly scared me a bit! Editing by Ranjan Abraham was a bit of a disappointment, the slow-motion was not needed, yet was inserted. Also, the movie could of been better if some scenes were cut out. Sorry Ranjan!

I want to end the review, talking about the direction. Sadly, Ranjith Shankar does NOT live up to his Passenger. Arjunan Saakshi lacked the pace and intensity of a so called thriller. It got slow at bits, and I found myself losing attention at some parts. AS also missed out on the suspense factor. The only suspense factor was: Who is Arjunan? But, the movie does carry a social message for the audience, mostly on humanity.

At last, the movie is a one-time watcher and leaves you with the question: Who is Arjunan??  I know the answer, do you?

Rating: 2.75/5
