Deivathirumagal Movie Review-For the Family

Deivathirumagal stars Vikram,Baby Sarah,Anushka,Amala Paul, and Santhanam in the lead roles. Its directed and written by Madrasapattinam fame, A.L Vijay. Music is by G.V Prakash,Cinematography is handled by Nirav Shah, and Edited by Anthony. DTM was also released in Telugu as Nanna.

Story: Nila(Baby Sarah) gets taken away from her father,Krishna(Vikram), by Swetha(Amala Paul) and her father(Sachin Khedekar); because he is a mentally challenged adult. Nila was born to Krishna and Swetha's older sister. How Krishna, and his lawyers: Anuradha(Anushka),Vinod(Santhanam),Priya(Priya) help him gain custody of Nila forms the rest of the story.

Performances: Vikram was outstanding! He had that childish innocence completely in him, we could feel what he was feeling throughout. Its amazing to see him be so flawless in his act.  Sarah is another great performer, totally on par with Vikram in terms of performance, and a cute little thing too. Anushka, this is definitely one of her best performances in Tamil till date, her role had power. Santhanam had a good role too, though comical, his role had scope. Anuska and Santhanam were a nice comedy pair. Amala Paul, her role was a bit small, but she performed well in what she had. But she did seem a bit stiff in some scenes.

Direction: All of us know that DTM is an adaption of the American film I am Sam. But Vijay hasn't taken all the scenes from I am Sam, he has only taken the basic plot. It's Indian to the T. Vijay does a great job in catering everything needed for the family audience, such as comedy, sentiment, a bit of romance, etc. Not to forget, the flow of the movie, everything transitions smoothly, though the song Vizhigalil oru Vanavil didn't seem to be needed. But overall, he has done a nice job.

Cinematography and Editing: Nirav Shah, is one of the most sought after cinematographers in Kollywood, and he lives up to his name in every single movie. Its movies like DTM that make him popular.  He knows exactly when to give what type of tone to which scene. Vizhigalil oru Vanavil ix exceptionally beautiful; Anushka looks gorgeous, so do her surroundings. The credit for the flow of the movie goes to Anthony, his job has been well done, but still a bit iffy on Vizhigalil oru Vanavil.

Music: G.V Prakash, totally steals our hearts with the Background music, exceptionally done. His BGM adds to the emotions of a particular scene, the BGM
itself makes you cry. When it comes to the songs, sadly G.V Prakash has plagiarized two songs: Pa Pa Pappa(Walt Disneys Robhin Hood) and Jagada thorn(Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan's Truth). Music seems average,my picks are: Vizhigalil oru Vanavil,Pa Pa Pappa,Aariro, and Vennilave.

Pros:

  • Performances
  • Cast
  • Direction/Story
  • Cinematography
  • Editing
  • BGM
  • Some of the Music
  • Family entertainer
  • Vikram and Sarah, workout so well as father and daughter
  • Court Scene at the end

Cons:

  • Vizhigalil oru Vanavil, seemed a bit out of place, wasn't really needed..
  • Plagiarizing of the two songs.
  • Credit hadn't been given to I am Sam, which should happen.

Final Say: Watch it, you WILL cry more than a bucketful, for sure. Its heartbreaking but, touching, the end is a bit unexpected. Watch it for sure! You will not regret it! Take your whole family! :)

Vikram's Pitha renamed Deiva Thirumagan

Vikram's upcoming project directed by Madarasapattinam Vijay, which was earlier titled as Pitha, has been renamed as Deiva Thirumagan now. Anushka and Amala Paul are the female leads. The film also has Vijay's regular team of Nirav (camera), G.V. Prakash (music), Selva (art) and Anthony (editing).

In the film, Vikram will appear as Muthu, a man suffering with a mental disorder and his struggles to bring up his daughter. Amala Paul will appear as Vikram's wife. Though initially reported to be inspired by the American movie I Am Sam, director Vijay has rubbished these reports.

Vijay, Vishal, Vikram in Mani Ratnam's film

Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam, sources say, has decided to cast Vijay, Vishal and Vikram in his next film. The director is getting the script ready for his next film and is penning it down with these three stars in mind.

Mani Ratnam is one of the few directors who cast multi-heroes in his films and tasted success in films like Agni Natchathiram, which had Karthik and Prabhu; Iruvar, which saw the coming together of two legends Mohanlal and Prakash Raj and Thalapathy which had two superstars Rajinikanth and Mammootty.

This time the ace director will be instrumental in bringing the three current biggies of Kollywood together – Vishal, Vikram and Vijay.

Vikram turns singer again

We all know Vikram’s penchant for singing. In the past, the actor enthralled his fans by crooning for films like ‘Gemini’ and ‘Kanthaswamy’. And now, he has turned a singer again, this time for his forthcoming movie directed by Vijay.

The song ‘Paappa…. Paappa’, composed by G V Prakash Kumar, was recorded recently. “Vikram has good music knowledge and the song has come up well. It will sure become a chartbuster,” says the music composer.

Interestingly, Sainthavi, to whom Prakash will tie the knot soon, has also sung a number in the same film. “The song “Vizhigalil oru vaanavil” too has all the qualities to top the charts,” Prakash says with a smile.

In the meantime, the hot and happening music composer of Tamil cinema is making his foray in Bollywood, with a film titled ‘Joker’. He is also singing a number in the movie. “I am happy about my debut in Hindi,” he says.

Deeksha Seth for Vikram

Director Suseendran has completed the entire shooting of his off beat film 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' and moved into post production. One the work is over he will begin his yet untitled film starring Vikram.

Vikram is realising one of his dreams of doing double roles in a film. And for the heroine there were a few choices. Vikram wanted to have Amala Paul who is doing ‘Deivamagan’ with him for this film also. But it was the director who took the final call and finalised the new Tollywood gorgeous Deeksha Seth.

Deeksha Seth was a 2009 Miss India contest finalist. She debuted in the Telugu film ‘Vedam’ opposite Allu Arjun. After doing two more big films - ‘Mirapakay’ opposite Raviteja and ‘Wanted’ opposite Gopichand - Deeksha Seth is opening her account in Kollywood opposite Vikram.

Amala Paul strikes, Replaces Tamannah

The latest sensation from Kerala, Amala Paul is undoubtedly the hot new favourite of Kollywood today. The dusky beauty who is up there after her stupendous performance in ‘Mynaa’ has entered the big league.

After gaining a film opposite Chiyaan Vikram, Amala Paul has got her next big film ‘Vettai’ by Lingusamy. She will play the female lead opposite Arya in this film.

For Amala ‘Vettai’ is a more significant film because she has replaced Tamannah who was supposed to do it.

Vikram in Suseendran film

After his two big films ‘Kanthaswamy’ and ‘Raavanan’ not doing well, Vikram has now started taking personal interest in all aspects of his films apart from his acting.

Realising that only good scripts are going to take him forward, Vikram has said yes to a film to be directed by Suseendran. This film will start sometime in August next year. Suseedran after tasting big time popularity in ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ and ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is currently busy with the off beat film 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' produced by Gautham Menon.

Meanwhile Vikram is also putting pieces together to shift gear. He has walked out of the films of Boopathy Pandian and Vikram Kumar. Even his planned with Selvaraghavan is shelved. The only film committed by Vikram as his next is the one directed by 'Madraspattinam' Vijay which has Amala Paul as one of the heroines to Vikram.

Amala on roll. Bags Vikram film

She was surely expected to hit big time gradually. But Amala Pal aka Anaka of ‘Sindhu Samaveli’ and ‘Mynaa’ fame is rising up the ladder faster than she imagined.

‘Mynaa’ is doing wonders for this dusky beauty from Kerala. She was already committed for the ‘Kalavani’ director Sargunam's next film opposite Vimal. But she is said to have signed a much bigger film recently.

Amala will be one of the heroines of Vikram in the new film to be directed by ‘Madrasapattinam’ Vijay. Anushka is the other heroine.

News is that Amala Pal laid the conditions that she should have equal character to Anushka and also substantial combination scenes with the hero Vikram. Buzz says the team has agreed to all her conditions.

So Amala is here.

Vikram under 'BEB' Rajesh

Director Rajesh is on top after just two films. His 'Siva Manasula Sakthi' and 'Boss Engira Baskaran' have taken him to the big league with reports suggesting that he is paid in crores for his upcoming films.
Rajesh's situational comedies have a unique style and that feel good comedies has too many takers. Proof... 'Boss Engira Baskaran' is back to regular shows withstanding the 'Endhiran' tsunami for two weeks. ‘BEB’ is into its fifth successful week.
After ‘BEB’, Rajesh will be directing Udhayanidhi Stalin in a romantic comedy and then will move on to a film with Vikram. Yes folks, Cheeyan Vikram.

Vikram of late has been walking out of projects just like that and nobody was able to figure out where Cheeyan was heading. The last news we heard about Vikram was that he had confirmed a film 'Deivamagan' with ‘Madrasapattinam’ Vijay.
After that, sources say, Vikram has finalised a film under Rajesh. Rajesh is expected to travel in his familiar route with Vikram and it is going to be a new experience for Cheeyan who has not done an outright comedy till date.

Vikram in a cameo

Cheeyan Vikram has left everyone guessing as to what he will be doing next. Announcement of new projects taken up and more announcements of dropping projects, Vikram has not revealed much of late.

But what we know for sure is that Vikram will be doing a cameo in the much expected historical film ‘Urumy’ in Malayalam.

The film is directed by Santosh Sivan and has Prithviraj and Genelia in main lead roles. Prabhu Deva does an important role.

With Santosh Sivan at the helm of affairs his influence is attracting many biggies to do cameos. Tabu and Vidya Balan have agreed to be a guest in the film and now Vikram is also added to the list.

As days go by the film is likely become a true multi starrer with more names adding up. A fan doesn’t complain.

Trisha and Vikram will once again share the screen space after Bheema. But it is not for a film as most of their fans would want it to be. The buzz we hear is that the stars have been signed up a major brand for their commercial. The name of the brand has, however, been kept under wraps for now.

Sources say that the shooting of this commercial will begin in Chennai and both the stars will participate in it.

SASIKUMAR AND VIKRAM PART WAYS

Kollywood is surprised and shocked about news that actor Vikram and director Sasikumar have parted ways. It was all well a few months back when actor Vikram, impressed with Sasikumar's direction, invited him to direct a his first production venture. The air was full of expectations when the two powerhouses joined hands and shooting was in full swing until recently. The movie has Abhinaya of Nadodigal fame as the heroine and Samudrakani playing
a key role.

With 90% of the shoot complete, it is rumored that Vikram and Sasi, who had great amount of respect for each other, had difference of opinion regarding certain issues. Though the exact reasons are not known, we hear that the issue has been sorted out amicably and Sasikumar has taken over the entire production duties under his banner and Vikram is no longer involved in the movie. After this project, Sasikumar is committed to Samudrakani's next directorial venture "Poraali" where he plays the protagonist.

A really good comparison review of Raavanan and Raavan! :)

RAAVAN (BEERA) & RAAVANAN (VEERA) COMPARISON REVIEW

I always have faith in Abhishek Bachchan, eversince Mani Ratnam kind of re-launch him in Yuva as that “anti-hero” we all appreciate. People started recognizing Abhishek Bachchan as an actor rather than an ordinary man with 10 movie flops , who was is Amitabh Bachchan’s son. He, himself reassured his audience that whenever he does a film with Mani Ratnam it will always be THE MOVIE TO WATCH ! I couldn’t agree more. He gave us YUVA & GURU. Now the character of Beera in the film Raavan makes Abhishek Bachchan look like a sinister. Nothing new there- but he lack that big OOMPH to play Beera. I was disappointed with the film, and the only finger i can point to now is because of Abhishek Bachchan. Now this is a first, because i’ve all praises for this man -but he should not have played Beera.

WHY ?

Yes, i mentioned on my last review of “Raavan” that Abhishek Bachchan gave us something new, he bypass all his other conventional roles- and i applaud him for that. He’s brave to do another anti-hero role with Mani Ratnam. I think he didn’t defined the character as strongly as Vikram ( who played Veera in the tamil version ). As an actor you have got to find and create your own “WALK”, “TALK”, “MOVEMENT(s)”, Don’t start your character off with a name or a physical description. You got to Walk The Talk. If you understand your character well the audience will follow you throughout that journey. Abhishek did not became Beera, he PLAYED BEERA. His reactions to all situation was similar to when he’s being sad/angry/crazy or even vulnerable. So he got me confused.

Funny how i enjoyed watching Veera Than Beera. Funny how i even laugh at Vikram even though i don’t understand a word he’s saying. Funny how i preferred the tamil version than the hindi version. (WITH NO SUBTITLE).

Raavanan Veera

I don’t understand a word in tamil, nor have i watched a tamil film. The whole visceral effect in this film differs from hindi cinema. The cast was solid, and there WAS a STORY. There was a PLOT. How strange ? I think it helps me better understand their character and acting more, without busy reading the subtitile. I did not miss an action, a twitch or a spasm from any of the characters. Aishwarya Rai was so true to the charcter Ragini, because Vikram, Veera allowed her to [take and receive] in other terms to react to the situation and to react when ever Veera annoys the hell out of her. I understand Veera’s character completely. There’s an intention in his actions. Why did he shout ? Why did he lose control ? Most importantly why he kidnapped Ragini, and fell in love with her after ? when you understand that character so strongly nothing else matters.

A weak plot becomes an extension to that rock solid character. And i have to especially mention his essence and importance in the film. How i keep addressing that less is more. The lesser you give in, the more the audience will receive. Don’t spoonfeed us. We’re not babies ! And Vikram- my clothes hats off to you, you sexy beast you :) Whenever he speaks, there’s truth in whatever he says. It’s so rare to find an actor as sincere as Vikram. I have not watched his previous tamil films- but i think i’ve fallen in love with Vikram acting as Veera!

CAN I TALK ABOUT THE MUD PLEASE !

Abhishek looks like he wore an over the top eye liner and make up saying “Hey! Look at me , yes i’m dirty, i got mud all over me”. Too literal perhaps ? Like i said, i don’t need to be spoon fed.

On the other hand, Vikram looks like he’s one of the tribes. The leader of the tribes. The Veera in all Raavanan. I mean,it’s a character choice on how much mud you want to be in your face. But please KEEP IT REAL. Be truthful. Abhishek looks like he’s making a mockery out of himself. Vikram looks like he blended with the other cast in the song ! Watch the video below. I think you’ll get a rough idea what i meant.

I still love and respect Abhishek. He’s brave, too brave ! But this role ? – NOT FOR HIM!

Oh! and the tamil DEV -Prithviraj Sukumaran. All i can say is Aishwarya Rai is one lucky Bi#%* ! When Prithviraj as Dev and Vikram as Veera fought on that bridge- i was all eyes, ears, mouth and nose.TWO hot guys fighting on the bridge. No fire can be as hot as both of them ! Yes- sadly, i’m still a sucker for hot looking celebrities. I still succumb to them. Fast forward to 3.35min. You can thank me later :)

My Little Raavanan Review! :)

RAAVANAN
*ing:Vikram,Aishwarya Rai,Prithviraj,Priyamani,Karthick,Prabhu
,Ranjitha,Munna

**Villian in Telugu

I didnt know which picture to choose so I made a collage :). Ok now for my mini-review:
The movie was magnificent!!!!! ♥ I have no idea what the heck the reviewers of websites were talking about!!!! Vikram was amazing!!!!!!!! His best performance after Pithamagan(Sivaputrudu)! :D Ash was great too :) She dubbed for herself in Tamil as well but she didn't sound weird at all! :) Prithviraj was good to his extent too! Priyamani even though in a cameo, was good b/c of her dialogue before she dies, she expresses so well and dubs well too. The part where Dev(Prithviraj) suspects Ragini(Ash) just breaks my heart!!!! :'( It made me tear up :'(. But I loved how she was brave about it and went to Veera(Vikram) about it :) I just loved how she noticed her love for Veera! ♥ THE LAST TEN MINUTES ARE MARVELOUS AND PRECIOUS !!! :'( ♥ I hate the part where Veera gets shot by Dev at the end though :(!!! It made me cry after seeing Ragini stand up for him and everything. THE DIALOUGES WERE SIMPLY SUPERB, I SWEAR!!!! HATS OFF TO MRS. SUHASINI MANIRATNAM!!!!!! :D The amazing dialogues were what made up the characters and their characterization. Very great dialogues I just loved every single dialouge between Veer(Vikram) and Ragini(Ash) they were just amazing ! :) Also,a great movie directed by Mani Ratnam sir :) The cinematography was brilliant too, the movie was shown beautifully and again hats off to Santosh Sivan and V. Manikandan! :) I really, really, really loved the pair of Vikram and Ash they looked awesome!! :) ♥ The music was very good too my fav songs were: Veera Veera,Kattu Sirukki,Kedakarri,Usure Pogadhey. Naan Varuven , the song played at the end of the movie was touching too it added to the scene in the movie :(. The other songs were great too but I didn't like them as much. The Kattu Sirukki in the movie was different (the one between Vikram and Ash) that one was good too, it had a different flavor. :) Ash still looks gorgeous. :) She looks fine without make up also :) My favorite was the last 10 minutes except when Veera dies In my opinion Vikram and Ash steal the show as a great lead pair and with their awesome acting skills! :D

To Sum it all up This is definitely my favoritest Tamil movie after Alaipayuthey(Sakhi) and Sillunu Oru Kadhal(Nuvvu Nenu Prema)! ♥ It was an awesome movie! :D I loved it! ♥ ♥ ♥
