Surya Marathon :)

Believe it or not, all I watched this whole week were Surya movies! ( I had break). Now, I am like a huge fan of him. But still a huge fan of Prithvi, but in Malayalam :) Surya's eyes say everything,RGV was right he has power in his eyes, where he can emote: http://rgvzoomin.com/mr-eyes/ . Now here are movies I watched this week of Surya and ONLY him. :D In order from most fav,and down...

1. Sillunu Oru Kaadhal
This movie will always be my most fav movie of Surya, because this THE movie that I started liking him a ton :) Love his romantic image. Here is my post on it: http://scooponthesouth.blogspot.com/2010/11/my-love-sillunu-oru-kaadhal.html . Though it wasn't a hit, its one of those special movies for me. :) Love the music[A.R. Rahman] too especially the songs Munbe Vaa and Machakarri, the lyrics are wonderful[Vaali]

2.Vaaranam Aayiram
Surya was awesome in this one, especially playing the role of a teen to an old dad! WOW! He had to go through a lot of physical strain to lose weight for the roles, especially the teens one. He played the role of Krishnan who was the father of Surya(played by himself). But he carried his roles through the film, wonderfully. I don't think anyone else could have done better! :) My fav pair in the film was Surya-Divya, they were so adorable :D Divya also proved she could match up to him. :) I loved how she went to any extent to get Surya, even joined the army :) The film even earned National awards, which it deserved :)
My post on VA: http://scooponthesouth.blogspot.com/2010/11/varanam-aayiram.html

3. Aayutha Ezhuthu
Surya's role of Micheal Vasanth in this movie was very powerful. His role was based on George Reddy a student leader in the 1960s-1970s. He was very energetic and convincing in his role. He was also aggressive yet, sweet and smart/clever :) This role of his will always be one of most favorite roles, because it kind of reflects what Surya is in real life not just reel life. I liked the pairing of Surya and Esha, though she did look older than him.It was cool to see her in Tamil! :D To me it sounded as if Esha dubbed for herself, cause the way she talked in Tamil was weird. I LOVE this movie a lot now so I watched it twice this week :D My fav songs were Nenjam Ellam( Fell in love with lyrics),Yakkai Thriri, and Jana Gana Mana.
My post on AE: http://scooponthesouth.blogspot.com/2010/11/aayutha-ezhuthu.html

4. Vel
I liked this film because it was targeted towards the family audience which made it enjoyable, with comedy, action, romance and everrytthinggg. :D This was Surya's second time in a dual role as Vetrivel(vel) and Vasudevan(Vasu). Surya-Asin were just soo cute! :D Love their pair, I think they looked better than Ghajini cause Asin looked a little older and better for Surya. I liked Yuvan's mass music :D My favs were Onnapola ,Kovakarra Kiliye, and Ottraikannale. Ottrakannale was such a beautiful song, reminded me of Suttrum Vidi from Ghajini. But, I do wonder if Surya had a grudge against her during the shooting of Vel because of the blunder about Sillunu Oru Kaadhal.

5.Aadhavan
This is another one of the films I liked because again, it was for the family audience, which K.S Ravikumar specializes in. :D But, he seems to do the same kind of twists over and over again. Though this was a good movie, it was easy to guess the twist in the movie, which I won't say cause some of you might not have watched the movie. It was fun to see Surya be all evil one minute, and all funny and nice the next. :D I enjoyed all the parts that were taken in the house, where Suryas real family lived,it was hilarious. :D It was pretty cool to see yesteryear actress/heroine Saroja Devi back on screen, her role was more of a comedy character, with emotional elements. :D Nayan looked pretty in the film, made a pretty okay pair with Surya. :) They looked great in the songs Vaarayo Vaarayo, and Hasii Fisile( my favs).

6.Ayan
OKAY, Surya was EXTREAMLY stylish in this film! Made my jaw drop :D The part where he puts the diamonds around the water bottle, and on his head, is like WOAH DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING! His English actually sounds cool, best I have heard after Prithvi's it doesn't have a strong accent to it. His style is what made him up in this movie. :D Him and Tammana were a good pair, if only she was a bit taller. :P :D Loved them in the song Nenje Nenje, very sweet. A classy film I must say. :)

7.Singam-( Surya's 25th movie!)
Mass with Class is what describes this movie! :D We saw the rural Surya, but when he comes to the Chennai he is very classy with those t-shirts and jeans, not to forget the sun glasses. :) The film was good, but I was getting annoyed when he opened his mouth like a lion! He looked funny :D But, he is one of my most fav actors, so I forgive him ;) The Surya-Anushka pair was BEAST! They looked AWESOME together! SOOO CUTE ! Though Anushka is a bit taller than Surya, they looked fine. :) My fav songs were Kadhal Vandhale,En Idhayam, and She Stole my Heart. :) But from Anushka's acting in Tamil films, I can tell she does not know Tamil well at all. I say this because, she does not emote well when she acts in Tamil films, while in Telugu she is full of emotions in any film. Or maybe its just the dubbing artist of Anushka, but I really don't think so. She was better in Singam acting wise than in Vettaikaran or Rendu.  What I liked about this film was that it was reasonable, it didn't have stupid, unnecessary things in between.
One of my fav dialogues hehe :D :

8.Mounam Pesiyadhe
In this we see Surya as a guy who believes only in true love, and thinks all other lovers are non-true. He is brilliant in this role, because the role totally suits him and his looks. lol :D This was Trisha's second role as a heroine, and she was ok. She had unnecessary emotions at times, which were annoying. I liked Laila's cameo, it was cute and touching. :) Surya's eyes were so cool, ( Yes, I know they are contacts), but still! :D

9. Ghajini
One of Surya's Blockbuster films, and one of my favs! Surya was just AMAZING in the role of Sanjay Ramaswamy , when he had short term memory loss! The body language was like WOW. Asin was great too, I think she was only 20 when she did that role, so wow :D. This was THE movie where we saw Nayan change to a glamour doll, which shocked me, after I saw her in Chandramukhi. She was good for her role, not too much, not too less. But I thought the 'X machi Y machi' was not needed. lol :D It was sad to see Sanjay not tell Kalpana that he was actually Sanjay. :( Kalpana did not deserve to die, it was too sad. But overall a good movie. :) My fav songs were: Sutrum Vizhi(became such a HIT in both TN and AP!),Rahatulla,Rangola,Oru Maalai, and X-Machi Y Machi. So yeah basically all of them :D

10. Unnai Ninaithu
This was Surya's 9th movie,in which he starred with Sneha and Laila. This movie was funny, romantic, realistic, and emotional. Surya's characters name was Surya :D I really enjoyed the comedy track of Surya and Ramesh,Ramesh was hilarious :D It was really different seeing Surya then and now look at him! :D I liked the Surya-Sneha pairing a lot, they looked good together, I don't know why, they just did. Surya was such a softie in this movie, cute to see him like that. :) I liked the way the movie ended when he doesn't say anything just walks away with Sneha. :)

11. Aaru
Surya was great through out the film, his acting, the way he talked, body language, so natural. But the story didn't seem as strong to me. I liked it but, most of the movie was fighting( dishyum dishyum!). Surya played a harsh, mean guy outside, but a sensitive guy at heart,Aaru. Trisha plays his lady love,Maha. I love how Aaru takes revenge on his use to be boss, cause he SOO deserves it! MUAHHA :D But at the same time its very emotional for him to do so. Maha is the one who falls for Aaru first, I love the scene where she goes up to Aaru's place and tells him she loves him :D SO cute :) The music was very massy by DSP my favs were: Thottuta,Nenjum Ennam, and Soda Bottle.

Yes the title is weird but its the proposing scene:

Did I sound like I saw these movies for the first time? Well, no I have seen all the movies above before a ot of times. I have seen 22/26 of Surya's movies :)  When I was talking about how his role in AE reflects him in real life, I was talking about the Agaram Foundation Surya found : http://www.agaram.in/index.php?pollId=7

Surya keeps proving with every movie that he is one exceptional actor! :) And an exceptional person, with each day :)

Comedy actor M.S Bhaskar had a miraculous escape, when his car toppled after being hit by a speeding car in the Pollachi highway. The actor was returning from Ooty where he was shooting for a Vikram starrer directed by Vijay (Madarasapattinam fame). Kamal for the cause of cinema

Kamal Haasan on Thursday expressed confidence that the film industry would regain its glory. He said the two-day FICCI Media & Entertainment Business Conclave (MEBC) - 2010 in Hyderabad would identify and address the challenges facing the industry across the States.

The actor, who is also the chairman of the conclave, said the event will begin on December 1 and issues related to media including raising production costs will be discussed along with the solution to challenges faced by the industry across the nation.

Saying that the growth of the Rs.60,000-crore cine industry has come down from 18 percent to 14 percent in recent years, Kamal, however, disagreed with the view that sky-rocketing fees of stars is one of the reasons for the downfall of the industry.

"We tried to cap the rates of remuneration. But the remuneration is determined by the demand for a particular actor," he told reporters at a press conference.

This would only be the second such conclave to be held outside Mumbai by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), following the first in Chennai last year.

Among the issues to be discussed are television content, convergence of media, safeguarding the vernacular cinema, regional versus national TV, finance, technology, regulatory issues and global linkages. The conclave covers films, television, radio, animation, gaming, visual effects and digital entertainment sectors.

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ambika Soni, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, leading Bollywood producers Yash Chopra and Karan Johar, heads of various media houses would speak in different sessions.

ACTOR KIDNAPS DIRECTOR

Amjath, who made his acting debut with the film Kathiri Veyil, is being subjected to police enquiry following an alleged kidnap and extortion complaint. The actor, who also produced Kathiri Veyil, was angry with the film’s director Rupesh Paul following the film turning out to be a dud at the box office.

In order to make good the losses he had incurred, Amjath decided to kidnap Rupesh and extort Rs. 20 lakhs. He worked out a plan and kidnapped Rupesh along with three of his accomplices. Rupesh’s family finally handed over Rs. 20 lakhs to procure his release. This was disclosed during the police investigation.

It is worth mentioning here that Rupesh had directed the Malayalam film Laptop with Suresh Gopi, which turned out to be a hit before directing Kathiri Veyil.

Atharva’s nick name

Shomul. This is how Atharva, who made his debut in ‘Baana Kathadi’, is called by his family members. For those wondering the reason behind this unique name, it is coined from the names of the actor’s parents, Shoba and Murali.

Says Murali, “I am happy that Shomul has stepped into the industry at a right time and that too with a right film. Baana Kathadi has taken him to all sections of the audience. I am a proud father now”.

He adds: “My wish is that he should play different kind of roles that would bring out the actor in him. As a dutiful father, I will be always there to support him in all his endeavours. I also need the blessings and support of the audience”.

On his part, Atharva says, “Since I hail from a cinema family, acting has always been my passion. My inspiration is the great Kamal Hassan who gives nothing but the best to the characters he play. And my dad is my role model.”

Happy birthday to Prasanna

Prasanna is celebrating his birthday today. And this year he has a special reason to celebrate the special day in a big way. For, he will be acting in six films to be directed by one director- Rajjan Madhav.

First in the list will be ‘Muran’, in which the actor will share the screen space with Cheran. “After completing Muran, we will work together for six films,” says Prasanna, who is brimming with optimism.

“I know Rajjan Madhav right from Kanda Naal Mudhal days. At that time, he narrated to me a story titled Nee Vanthathum. But the project failed to take off due to unavoidable reasons”, Prasanna recalls.

“But our friendship continued and he narrated me a few more scripts. One among them is Muran. Since I loved all the scripts, we will be working on them one by one,” he says. Ask him about his birthday resolution, Prasanna says, “I will take extra care henceforth while choosing films.”

Ajith in Telugu

Ajith will be back in Telugu after his Debut film "Prema Pusthkam":
Ajith in Telugu:
Entertaining director Venkat Prabhu is in Hyderabad. He is there to talk to Telugu handsome hero Nagarjuna who is also starring in ‘Mankatha’.

Not just talking, other work activities like photo-shoots, date allotment and script discussion will also be carried out. Venkat Prabhu is pumped up about his project as it is his first movie with a big hero and more so as it is Ajith’s 50th movie.

Sources add that the movie will also be made in Telugu. The highlight would be that Ajith and Nagarjuna’s roles will be swapped for the Telugu version. That means what Nagarjuna does in Tamil, will be played by Ajith in Telugu and vice versa. Something that has been tried in the recent ‘Raavanan’ with Vikram swapping Prithviraj’s role in Hindi.

As reported earlier, to arouse the curiosity among the audience, Venkat Prabhu has made a teaser of ‘Mankatha’ that will be shown during the screening of Karthi’s ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ that releases this Friday.

Movies with Cinema as its theme

Yay!! Finally posting after 4 days! :D ok so, I really enjoy watching movies with cinema as its central theme Although I haven't seen many like that, I still like the ones I have seen :). Few of the movies I have seen like that are Vellithirai(Tamil), Thirakkatha(Malayalam) ,Pachakuthira(although not fully based on cinema,Malayalam) and Tamizh Padam(Tamil). Some I have heard of
but not seen are One Way Ticket(Malayalam) and Rasikan(Malayalam). But, sometimes they hurt because they make you see the dark side of Cinema also. :(
For Example Vellthirai shows how hard it is to become a director. You can feel the struggle by how Prithviraj acts. Dark side is that how crooked some people can be like Kannaiah/Dilipkanth(Prakash Raj). Also it shows how
some actresses struggle with their family, which I have heard about. And how air-headed some producers could be. :(

Another example Thirakkatha was said to be based on Srividya and Kamal Ha
ssan's relationship which later the director Renjith said was true. Great Acting done by Priyamani. Although the whole thing was'nt some was like Malavika(Priyamani) meeting Ajaychandran(Anoop Menon) during her last days, and their relationship. But Srividya and Kamal Hassan never got married and we don't know about the romance between them. The movie was good and very realistic but there was a dark side to it about how actresses struggle and how some big stars behave(again)...

Pachakuthira, although it doesnt revolve around cinema it shows how some junior artists struggle. Like in the movie Gopika and Dileep are sort of forcedto become junior artists by the position theyare in.It also shows how low they get payed as junior artists..

Tamizh Padam was a Tamil movie which spoofed many tamil movies like:Karuththamma - The first scene where a person tries to kill a new born baby. Periyar Dasan acted as the father in both Karuthamma and Tamil Padam (the spoof version).
Boys - The introduction scene for Siva's friends, who are even named after the actors in the film.
Thalapathi - When the gang leader Devaraj takes his revenge.
Ghajini - When Siva looks at a photo of a criminal whom he has to kill.
Enga Ooru Paattukaran - When he tries to find his father in Cinemapatti.
Kizhakke Pogum Rail - At Cinemapatti railway station, a lady who is sending messages at the back of the train compartment is similar to the one done by Radhika.
Pokkiri- When he is revealed to be a undercover cop.
Baasha - When he meets a so-called villain. The dialogues, settings and even the dialogues mock a similar scene in Baasha.
Annamalai - When Siva challenges the heroine's father on his status in society. Similarly the scene where the villian removes his sunglass while Siva wears his sunglass.
Sivaji - When he meets the minister for repairing the water pipe and his stylish way of putting signatures on documents.
Billa - The Billa tattoo saying "Swarna".
Apoorva Sagodharargal - The hero attempts to kill a bad guy by use of a Rube Goldberg machine similar to the one used in Apporva Sagodharargal
Anniyan - When he tries to kill a person with the help of buffaloes.
Nayagan- When people come asking for help to repair the water pipe.
Dhool - Introducing the local female gang leader Swarna.
Mouna Ragam- when Karthik proposes his love to Revathi.
Nattamai- The village head who comes in the first scene.
Chinna Thambi- When 3 brothers safeguard their sister and place their hands below her feet.
Kaakha Kaakha - When Siva gets drunk at Pondicherry and also when the hero leaves with the heroine to a retreat in Pondicherry.
Muthirai - Siva's cheri home turns out to be very posh within.
Siva Manasula Sakthi
Dasavathaaram
Thirupachi When the heroine gets kidnapped and hidden in a factory, Shiva comes to save her and fights all the rowdies.
Virumaandi - Seen being arrested at Cinemapatti railway station.
Run - When the hero runs away from the rowdies in a subway.
Vettaiyadu Vilayadu - A cop who asks for permission to go to America. Then the commissioner will mention his name as Raghavan which is the name of the character played by Kamal Hassan in this film.
Kanthaswamy - This is interwoven with the Baasha scene in the movie. The man working 'under' the hero is said to be Kanthaswamy.
Mozhi - The hero sees the heroine in a scene where the heroine is beating up a woman. Also, the 'signals' of falling in love as described in Mozhi are also depicted, along with the heroine's friend named Sheela.
Kadhalan - When Shiva goes to Priya's house and dances to win her love.
Kadhalukku Mariyadhai - When Shiva and Priya simultaneously take the same book "Love and Love Only".
Badri - The "Pacha Manja" song has captions which says that the hero sang this song.
Palayathu Amman - When the hero enters Cinemapatti, they encounter movie sets similar to all Rama Narayanan movies, especially Palayathu Amman.
Sethupathi IPS- A cop will suggest that a that the murderer for a murder case hiding in Pakistan and the commissioner will scold him mentioning the name Sethupati which was a character from the film played by Vijayakanth. It is notable that the cop's voice and pronunciation is similar to Vijayakanth.
Chidambara Ragasiyam - Portrayal of the character D. The character was played by Delhi Ganesh as Black Cat in the movie Chidambara Ragasiyam and his identity is revealed only at the end of the movie.
Veerasamy - A girl having a copy of the film's DVD says "Ithu kahai alla kappiyam." meaning "This is not a story. This is an epic.".
People Spoofed:
Kamal Haasan - When a conversation mentions that Virumaandi is a good man and all that he does gets misconstrued.
Joseph Vijay - At the beginning of the film, there are references to his punch dialogues. Later, Siva tenses his muscles like Vijay did in Vettaikaran.
A. R. Rahman - The Judge declares that the Government has to award a Golden Globe award to Paravai Muniyamma, to which she says "Ella Pugazhum Iraivanukke" (a popular dialogue uttered by Rahman at the 2009 Academy Awards.
Nayantara - During the song ''Kuthu Vilakku'', a man dances in a bikini with a tattoo on his back, similar to Nayantara's tattoo in Billa.
Fatima Babu/Shobana Ravi - The TV reporter says her name is Fathima Ravi - a combination of the two famous newsreaders from DoordarshanTV.
One of my favorite Tamil movies ever! :D Oh, and we can't forget the spoofy song ''Oh Maha Zeeya''.!

Note: List was gotten entirely from Wikipedia, yes I know it isn't always reliable but in this case it is.

Even though I haven't seen One Way Ticket I have heard that its about how "One Way Ticket' is basically the story of crazy fans of superstars who go to any extent to promote their screen idols and their movies. They even sacrifice their own career trying to promote their favorite stars." quoted from India glitz's preview of the movie. Which the quote to me sounds pretty bad.! Pretty cool that Kavya Madhavan did some of the lyrics! :D

Some of the upcoming releases that revolve around cinema are BestActor(Malayalam),Glamour(Telugu), and Film Star(Malayalam). Watch out for their realisticness :D

A really good comparison review of Raavanan and Raavan! :)

RAAVAN (BEERA) & RAAVANAN (VEERA) COMPARISON REVIEW

I always have faith in Abhishek Bachchan, eversince Mani Ratnam kind of re-launch him in Yuva as that “anti-hero” we all appreciate. People started recognizing Abhishek Bachchan as an actor rather than an ordinary man with 10 movie flops , who was is Amitabh Bachchan’s son. He, himself reassured his audience that whenever he does a film with Mani Ratnam it will always be THE MOVIE TO WATCH ! I couldn’t agree more. He gave us YUVA & GURU. Now the character of Beera in the film Raavan makes Abhishek Bachchan look like a sinister. Nothing new there- but he lack that big OOMPH to play Beera. I was disappointed with the film, and the only finger i can point to now is because of Abhishek Bachchan. Now this is a first, because i’ve all praises for this man -but he should not have played Beera.

WHY ?

Yes, i mentioned on my last review of “Raavan” that Abhishek Bachchan gave us something new, he bypass all his other conventional roles- and i applaud him for that. He’s brave to do another anti-hero role with Mani Ratnam. I think he didn’t defined the character as strongly as Vikram ( who played Veera in the tamil version ). As an actor you have got to find and create your own “WALK”, “TALK”, “MOVEMENT(s)”, Don’t start your character off with a name or a physical description. You got to Walk The Talk. If you understand your character well the audience will follow you throughout that journey. Abhishek did not became Beera, he PLAYED BEERA. His reactions to all situation was similar to when he’s being sad/angry/crazy or even vulnerable. So he got me confused.

Funny how i enjoyed watching Veera Than Beera. Funny how i even laugh at Vikram even though i don’t understand a word he’s saying. Funny how i preferred the tamil version than the hindi version. (WITH NO SUBTITLE).

Raavanan Veera

I don’t understand a word in tamil, nor have i watched a tamil film. The whole visceral effect in this film differs from hindi cinema. The cast was solid, and there WAS a STORY. There was a PLOT. How strange ? I think it helps me better understand their character and acting more, without busy reading the subtitile. I did not miss an action, a twitch or a spasm from any of the characters. Aishwarya Rai was so true to the charcter Ragini, because Vikram, Veera allowed her to [take and receive] in other terms to react to the situation and to react when ever Veera annoys the hell out of her. I understand Veera’s character completely. There’s an intention in his actions. Why did he shout ? Why did he lose control ? Most importantly why he kidnapped Ragini, and fell in love with her after ? when you understand that character so strongly nothing else matters.

A weak plot becomes an extension to that rock solid character. And i have to especially mention his essence and importance in the film. How i keep addressing that less is more. The lesser you give in, the more the audience will receive. Don’t spoonfeed us. We’re not babies ! And Vikram- my clothes hats off to you, you sexy beast you :) Whenever he speaks, there’s truth in whatever he says. It’s so rare to find an actor as sincere as Vikram. I have not watched his previous tamil films- but i think i’ve fallen in love with Vikram acting as Veera!

CAN I TALK ABOUT THE MUD PLEASE !

Abhishek looks like he wore an over the top eye liner and make up saying “Hey! Look at me , yes i’m dirty, i got mud all over me”. Too literal perhaps ? Like i said, i don’t need to be spoon fed.

On the other hand, Vikram looks like he’s one of the tribes. The leader of the tribes. The Veera in all Raavanan. I mean,it’s a character choice on how much mud you want to be in your face. But please KEEP IT REAL. Be truthful. Abhishek looks like he’s making a mockery out of himself. Vikram looks like he blended with the other cast in the song ! Watch the video below. I think you’ll get a rough idea what i meant.

I still love and respect Abhishek. He’s brave, too brave ! But this role ? – NOT FOR HIM!

Oh! and the tamil DEV -Prithviraj Sukumaran. All i can say is Aishwarya Rai is one lucky Bi#%* ! When Prithviraj as Dev and Vikram as Veera fought on that bridge- i was all eyes, ears, mouth and nose.TWO hot guys fighting on the bridge. No fire can be as hot as both of them ! Yes- sadly, i’m still a sucker for hot looking celebrities. I still succumb to them. Fast forward to 3.35min. You can thank me later :)
