Anyhow, the makers are pretty happy with the initial reactions on the film and are planning to open more centres in U A E and other release centres outside the state.

Lucky To Have 'Urumi'-Genelia

Genelia is in cloud nine. Yes, with the great critical acclaim and phone calls that is coming in from all corners in praise of her convincing portrayal of a serious role of 'Ararkkal Ayesha,' Genelia currently at the sets of 'Velayudham is very happy to have done the movie' I consider very lucky to have been considered for the role in Urumi'.

A very demanding role for which i had to train even in the martial art of 'Kalaripayattu', this one remains very close to me. I was also very comfortable with the team of Santhosh, Sankar Ramakrishnan, Anjali Shukla and my co-artists who helped me with my dialogues, though they were not normal Malayalam. I like to experiment in all languages  and is proud to be part of 'Urumi' as it happens to be my first Malayalam movie' says Genelia.

Urumi Is Sheer Magic - Maniratnam

A special screening of 'Urumi' was arranged for the South India's greatest director Maniratnam at Chennai. The preview that was organised a day before the release at real Images, Chennai has Mani in all praise for his friend and Camera man Santhosh Sivan, who had worked with Mani in many hit films including the latest 'Raavanan'. Urumi is sheer magic, a very convincing movie that is huge' said Mani after the preview. He also made an SMS to Santhosh Sivan who was back to promotions of the movie at the capital city.

Santosh Sivan's quest for beautiful locales

Whether it is his breathtaking Ashoka or the beautiful Anandabhadram, Santosh Sivan's quest for mesmerizing locales is neverending. Similarly, the cinematographer turned director is back with some never-seen-before locations in his upcoming multistarrerUrumi. This time, Sivan has chosen some interior spots in Malshej Ghats, Maharashtra and Chalakudy forest, Kerala.

But according to lead actor Prithviraj, the shooting of Urumi was no bed of roses. "To reach the location, we first travelled by car and then a tractor. Finally, there was a long walk involved before we reached the location in Malshej Ghats, Maharashtra. It was physically as well as mentally taxing, but we are all happy with the effort as the film has come out better than expected," Prithvi was quoted saying.

Prabhu Deva perfects Malayalam

The road to success is not a bed of roses. Prabhu Deva, the choreographer turned actor turned director will soon be seen donning the role of Vawali in the Santosh Sivan directed magnum opus epic drama ‘Urumi’. The film sees Prithviraj playing the lead role with a good handful of lead roles portrayed by lead artists across the country.

The talkies part of the film is taking place. In connection with this Prabhu Deva who has a very relevant part in the film, recently revealed to media he has dubbed for the film in his own voice. Though Santosh Sivan had saved a good three days for Prabhu Deva’s dubbing, the actor has surprised everyone with his quick and correct version of rendering the Malayalam language.

Sources also reveal that Deva will be seen in the film as the lead character’s close associate. Prabhu Deva will share screen space with Nithya Menon, and the duo will also feature in a song together. We need not have a doubt with regards to the cinematography as well as the scenic beauty in the film because ‘Urumi’ is a Santosh Sivan product.

‘Urumi’ is set in the 15th century. The film is being created with a whooping 20-crore budget which makes it the second most costliest film in the Malayalam film industry next to ‘Pazhasi Raja.’ One more highlight of ‘Urumi’ is a song sung by Sonu Nigam. This is the first Malayalam film where the singer has lent his voice for a song. The audio release of the film will be held in the Kerala capital of Thiruvananthapuram next week, suggest reports.

With many such firsts let’s hope ‘Urumi’ clears the first place in Malayalam charts post release.

Tabu, Vidya roped in for dance numbers

Even as Vidya Balan completed the shooting of a special song in Santosh Sivan’s Urumi came the news that Tabu is also doing a dance number in the film. The Malayalam film is a period drama set in the 15th century and revolves around the killer of Vasco Da Gama. Prabhudeva and Genelia D’Souza are playing the lead roles.
“Vidya is performing an oracle number which is based on the traditional Mohiniattam dance form. She is a good dancer and was all set to perform the number after four days of rehearsals. But Vidya’s part extends beyond the dance number as she is a character in the film,” said Sivan, adding that well-known South dance director Ulhas has choreographed the sequence.
Sivan said that Tabu was also shooting for a song in the film. “Tabu is doing a number with Prabhudeva and actor Prithviraj that will be shot in an open ground. Ahmed Khan has choreographed this sequence,” said Sivan.

Nayanthara's goodbye to Kollywood?

Is Nayanthara saying goodbye to Kollywood? The writing is 'on the screen', as she has completed all her current assignments and moved on.

Her Rajesh-directed Boss Engira Baskaran (BEB) with Arya, is likely to be her last release in Tamil. She has Shyama Prasad's arthouse Electra in Malayalam and the mass commercial Symbol with Upendra in Kannada to release.

Nayanthara has been refusing to sign some of the biggest projects in Tamil and Telugu with superstars, besides a Bollywood film with a top star! Says a rival actress, "Can you believe that she said 'no' to director Siddique, who offered her a chance to be Salman Khan's heroine in the Hindi remake of her Malayalam film Bodyguard? " The industry feedback is that Nayan has matured as an actress of substance and has a phenomenal fan following. In fact, trade experts think that she is the only actress in Kollywood who commands an opening!

All this has made her BEB hot in the trade circuit, especially after the trailer and songs of the film have started playing on television channels. Says Arya, "Nayanthara is simply terrific in BEB. She really loved doing the film, and kept on saying that Chandrika (her character in the film) is similar to what she is in real life; practical, level-headed and independent. Watch her in the comedy scenes, along with Santhanam, and me... she's sure to bring the house down! I don't know if it'll be her last film in Tamil; that, you'll have to ask her and Prabhu Deva. But one thing is sure — BEB will be the most memorable film in her career."

Meanwhile, sources close to Nayanthara state, "Nayan has given up her career as her priority is to marry Prabhu Deva. They are made for each other and are just waiting to legalise their relationship, the moment Prabhu's divorce from his wife comes through." Prabhu's family has accepted Nayan and she is said to be the darling of household. Recently, the couple is said to have exchanged garlands during a big pooja and homam performed by Sundaram master (Prabhu's dad) in which the couple exchanged garlands.

Prabhu Deva is now more open about his relationship with Nayanthara. He took her with him to Paris during the shoot of Jayam Ravi's Ich, a film which he's directing. A source adds, "Last Tuesday, they were spotted at a Vadapalani theatre holding hands and watching Karthi's Naan Mahaan Alla." Currently, the lovebirds are in Malshej Ghat on the location of Santosh Sivan's Urumi, in which Prabhu Deva plays a pivotal role along with Prithviraj and Genelia. It looks like movies don't excite Nayan any more, as she is now learning cooking and believes in the old adage that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. toi
