Anwar Movie Review-Watchable

I finally saw Prithvi's Anwar, yesterday! Now, I am going to review it today, it will be a short one. :) Anwar stars Prithviraj and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles with Prakash Raj and Lal in supporting roles. The movie is directed and written by Amal Neerad and the music is by Gopi Sunder. Though Im a Prithvi fan I am gonna be honest here :

Story: Its basically about Anwar( Prithviraj) taking revenge for the death of his parents and sister, but in a different/new way. To read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anwar_%282010_film%29

Prithvi was good in his role, just perfect. He handled the emotional scenes well, especially the one where Prithvi goes to the police for his parents and sis's bodies and the part where he meets Prakash Raj for the first time. Mamta really didn't have anything to do, which was shocking to me cause normally in Malayalam films there is something for the lead actress to do( my opinion ). But, Prithvi and Mamta made a very cute pair. :) Prakash Raj's was good in his character though, most of the time he was speaking in Tamil, actually the whole time.( I think he was supposed too?). Lal was superb as always :) Poor Nithya Menon, she didn't have anything to do :(

Music: One of the best albums I have heard in Malayalam in the recent times. Its a masterpiece I must say. Gopi Sunder is here to stay. Click to read my Music Review: http://scooponthesouth.blogspot.com/2010/09/anwar-music-review-d.html

Hello Green screen!
The story was a really deep minded and a message orientated one. But it wasn't gripping enough, I found myself getting a bit bored especially towards the end, when there is this long fight scene which was like 10 minutes. Maybe the director should have made it more interesting. But the Climax was excellent. :) I also found that they were using the effect of slow motion too much, when it wasn't necessary. It was used a lot in the fight scenes, which made you feel like the movie was going toooo slow. I can understand why when they show Anwar's flashback, but for the fights it was totally not needed. I also felt that the song Njan was ruined by the green screen backgrounds. They seriously could have thought of something better than that! Its just super awkward if you think about it.

Pros:
  • Prithviraj
  • Music
  • Mamta Mohandas
  • The climax
  • Prithvi-Mamta pair
  • Background score- also done by Gopi
  • Flashback
  • The Cast
Cons:
  • Misuse of slow motion
  • Story isn't gripping enough
  • Green screen in the song Njan
  • Mamta's role is too short

Watch it for Prithvi,Mamta and the deep message that the movie sends. :)

Raj Zacharia, producer of Prithviraj's latest filmAnwar, lashed out at his director Amal Neerad for allegedly demanding an extra ten lakhs in connection with the release of the film's dubbed Tamil version."

The film has already caused a loss of one and a half crores. Realizing this, both Prithviraj and Prakashraj have dubbed for the Tamil version without demanding any remuneration. But Amal Neerad demanded an extra ten lakhs as his remuneration to allow the print to be released from Gemini Labs," Raj said.

"Amal Neerad agreed to complete Anwar in 52 days with a budget of three crores. However, the film was completed in 78 eight days with a budget of five and a half crores. Amal used to take the first shot at 11 a.m. and wrap up the shooting by 6 p.m." Raj also said that he is planning to file a complaint against Amal Neerad at the South Indian Producers' Association. Amal Neerad is yet to respond to the allegations.

Anwar to release on Nov 19 in Tamil

The fastest rising superstar in Malayalam Prithviraj's recent hit Anwar is getting dubbed and released in Tamil on November 19.

The film has Prithviraj, Mamta Mohandas and Prakash Raj in the lead, all popular in Tamil cinema.
Prithviraj has done quite a few Tamil movies like Mozhi which made him popular with the youth audiences.

Prithvi's last release in Tamil was Mani Ratnam's Raavanan in which he was appreciated and lauded by the critics.

Anwar is an action packed entertainer directed by Amal Neerad, one of the most stylish filmmakers in south.
In the title role in Anwar he plays a Muslim youth who has been wrongly implicated in a terrorist case.

He is brilliant and riveting in the film where he crosses swords with Prakash Raj, who plays a cop in charge of the anti-terrorist squad.

‘Four Friends’ leads the list

With the arrival of few new movies in Mollywood, the list of the Box Office's best has shown considerable differences from the previous weeks. And as expected the multi-starrer from Saji Surendran 'Four Friends' has opened to good initials to top the list.
1. Four friends - Though there are mixed opinions about the movie, it registered good initials in the first two days. This third movie from Saji Surendran has a very interesting cast composing of Jayaram, Jayasuriya, Boban Kunchakko, Meera Jasmine, Siddhique, Salimkumar, Ganesh Kumar and Suraj Venjarmoodu, which itself is the USP of the movie. Add to that the presence of universal star Kamal Haasan in a special cameo, it is not surprising for the movie with such a good pre-publicity to jump to the top spot from the day one. It remains to be seen how far this collections sustain in the case of 'Four Friends'.
2. Anwar - Though the interest in the movie is getting thinner, the stylish movie from Amal Neerad still registers good collections all across. The presence of Lal, Prakash Raj and Mamtha Mohandas, together with the sensitive topic and interesting visualisations add to list of the highlights of the movie which had a very good first two weeks, as far as the collections are concerned. 'Anwar' remains the second solo hit from Prithviraj after 'Puthiya Mugam' which came out last year.
3. Cocktail - Slowly emerging to the chart tops is 'Cocktail'- a low budget thriller from debutant director Arunkumar. The movie based on an English flick is wisely redone to suit the mood and interests of the desi audience. Featuring Anoop Menon, Jayasuriya and Samvrutha Sunil in the lead, ‘Cocktail’ is expected to become an earner even with a short run.
4. Endhiran - The Rajinikanth magic is still on. The magnum opus science fiction 'Endhiran' from Shankar is till ruling the theatres in majority of the centres, though the initial frenzy ness had died out. Now the movie remains the hot favourite of families and children.
5. Elsamma Enna Annkutty - This Lal Jose starer has ended up as the black horse among the Ramzan releases. The movie into its fifty days continues in 14 of its release centres with satisfactory collections. Also in theatres are Mohanlal's 'Shikaar', Mammootty's 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' and Suresh Gopi's 'Sadgamaya', continuing with average collections.

Anwar music Review :D

Ok, well this is my first Malayalam music review, and its for my favorite actor Prithviraj!! :D The movies music is by Gopi Sundar, the awesome person who did the awesome background music for Thanthonni :D The movie stars Prithviraj and Mamta Mohandas in lead roles.:

Kizhakku Pookkum- Shreya Ghoshal Navin Iyer, Sabari Brothers and Raqueeb Alam: This song, sounds like a girl singing about her guy :D in this case I would say, Mamta talking about Prithvi or a marriage song. The beats are really good, they have a nice Islamic feel( I think they call them Mapilla songs I really don't know sorry :) ) to them :) Shreya is awesome, she pronounces everything perfectly :D Her voice is sweet too :D So are the guys who sing the song , I love when they say "Kalbithi...." The song kind of reminded me of Kannanale from Bombay. I liked the clapping, its so perfect, and also there are jiggles in the background. The song also makes you want to dance :D

Njan- Prithviraj and Mamta Mohandas,Reshmi,Priya, and Asif Akbar: Yes, It is sung by the Lead pair Prithviraj and Mamta Mohandas. Mamta is perfect, since she is a singer by profession also. But, Prithvi is like WOW! also, he does his rap perfectly! :D <3

Kanimma: Shreya Ghoshal and Naresh Iyer:Starts off like, a tapping of a pot kind of sound and Shreya's humming. :) Has a nice, soothing guitar in the background, and Shreya and Naresh's voices add to it :D. Its a very romantic song <3>

Vijnatheeram-Sukhvinder Singh, and Blaaze (rap) : The, with no doubt sounds like a song where somebody is "on the run" . The song is so intense, especially with the rock gutiar and Blaaze's rap. Also, Sukhivinder's voice sounds so aggressive when he sings Vijanatheeram Vidhimoohortham....... :) I can just imagine Prithvi running soo fast :D

Kavitha Pol-Gopi Sundar, Uma A V : This is such a sad song :'(, can tell from the way it begins and the melodramatic singing :( and of course the lyrics "unnai kanadhey unnai kelkadhy......" :(. But wow Uma's voice is something special, really pretty :), Kind of reminds you of Bombay Jayashree, but something different. Gopi Sundar is good too :'( It seems like a song where they are longing to see each other, but can't :'(

Kannimma Neele- Gopi Sundar, Suchitra KK: This song is just basically Kanimma, but with Suchi singing it :) She does an awesome job! :D This one has a more softer side though, the whole song. :) The Guitar is mostly used through out. :) I would say it kind of gives you a "floating in the air" feel. :)

A Hero Will Rise: Gopi Sunder,Navin Iyer, Sethu Thankachan, and Shree Charan: Gives you a feel of the scary type of songs in the beginning, but it gets better :) They use the rockstar guitar again in this one :D Its a pretty short song, sounds background musicish :D Also, sounds like a situational type of song, where something is happening.

Kizhakku- This is just an instrumental version of Kizhakku Pookkam, You really get to observe the instruments used. :)

My Picks: My picks would are Njan, Kizhakku Pookkam and Kanimma(both versions), but my number one would be Njan! :D Gopi Sunder proved himself even better with this album! :D His background music rocked in Thanthonni, and now is album is even more rocking!!! :D

My Rating: 4.5/5 :) Gopi made me his fan with this album :)

Which songs did you enjoy listening too???
