This movie truly touches my heart whenever I see it. I saw the movie for the first time last year after its release, and I just had to get the ORIGINAL DVD, after its release. Bought it a couple of weeks ago and I got to watch Oy! again today. :) In my view this is a Telugu classic, though not a hit, it will be remembered.
Story: Uday(Siddharth) is a rich, spoilt brat, who likes/believes in short and sweet moments. He loves to have fun and party. Then there is Sandhya(Shamili) who lives on her own,is disciplined and she is the exact opposite of Uday, she believes in long lasting relatioships/moments. She is super orthodox and loves plants, doesn’t like to have fun in a way. On New Years day its Uday’s birthday and he celebrates it in a pub, while Sandhya’s friend drags her to the same pub to party for New Years day. That’s when Uday comes across Sandhya wearing a Salwar Kameez and writing in her diary, and falls for her. After several attempts he woos her and she falls for him too. Abhishek(Sunil) who is an insurance salesman sells Sandhya the policy, for which she has to get tested for any disease. When they tell Uday that Sandhya has put him as the beneficiary person of the insurance, he is happy that he has won her. But, when they call him down to the hospital to show him her reports, its revealed that she has lobular carcinoma(breast cancer). Its serious and she has only a little time left. Devastated, he does everything Sandhya wishes to do in her life. But he does not reveal the truth about her condition. Sandhya starts learning how to have fun and enjoy life, so they throw a party after they get back from Kasi. But after the party she collapses and learns about her disease. She dies towards the end, but we don’t see it, its obvious by what Uday says in the end. It ends with Uday sitting lonely on a bench.
Lets start with the performances: Sid(Siddharth) was extraordinary! , he fits the bill for the role of Uday perfectly!, no second thought! :) This was Shamili's first film as a heroine. She was good in her part, except in the part where she is in the hospital with Sid and she tells him that the doctor told her about her condition. She seemed to have a stone face through out the whole scene. But except that she was awesome. She is absolutely gorgeous! :D A ton of people criticized her for her weight, which I don't agree on, I personally do not think she was over weight, or that her weight matters! Its the way she acted that does! All the people who criticized her were being butt holes. ( I would have used the ruder version, but my blog shall be clean =) ). Sunil was freakishly hilarious, with his comedy! Especially with the Chatrapathi ringtone! :D It was funny and cool to see Pradeep Rawat in his role from Chathrapathi, it was also cool to see them making references to Chathrapathi( Prabhas)! Such a popular actor like Napoleon was unnecessary as the part of Sid's uncle, cause it was such a small role. Krishnudu obviously was great in the role of Fatso, because obviously he is fat. :P
I thought the director Anand Ranga did a great job in both directing and writing the story of this movie. The concept of the title is just superb! But I think he should have made Shamili act better in that scene in the hospital. It was nice of him for telling the truth in the beginning of the film that Oy! is inspired from Erich Segal's Love Story. :) and others:
Awesome Dialogues too. :) :)
