But it seems the current trend is just the opposite!Ever since reigning Anushka played the said role as Amalapuram Saroja in Telugu super hit Vedam, being remade in Tamil as Vaanam with Anushka reprising the role, actresses' fear of ruining their public images by their onscreen portrayal as prostitutes has seemingly vanished!
Prostitutes' roles became so coveted that actresses in both Tamil and Telugu industries tend to believe these days that unless they play such a challenging character at least once, they can’t prove their acting talents. The proof is that even young actresses like Bindu Madhavi have no hesitation in signing such roles.
Bindu Madhavi will be seen as a prostitute in master director Gautham Menon's next production venture Veppam to be directed by Anjana, who associated with Gautham Menon in the past. After considering various heroines, Gautham decided to finalize Bindu as he was impressed with her look in Avakai Biryani, it is said. "Though the character is that of a call girl, there won’t be any intimate scenes or vulgarity," director Anjana assured.
