Rajini shifts home for fans

The latest news is that Rajinikanth wishes to meet his fans. He will be meeting not just the district administrators of his fans’ club but also the fans who wish to see him in person and take photographs.

To facilitate his fans to meet him, Rajini has decided to shift over to a new house that has ample space to accommodate fans and well-wishers. Moreover, his Poes Garden residence may be unsuitable to invite guests because this might cause some security concerns to his neighbor J Jayalalitha, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Rajini also plans to treat his fans with feast once he is totally fit.

Superstar discharged

We all knew that Superstar was admitted in a leading hospital in Singapore, today the star has been discharged as he has met a complete recovery for his illness.

His son-in-law was the first to greet Superstar's fans all over the globe with this news. He tweeted, "Superstar discharged from hospital. He has recovered completely and taking rest. Soon national award celebrations god bless."

Our birdies add that Rajinikanth will stay there for a few more days. Remember, Dhanush had earlier told us that Superstar is on a shopping spree and the family is looking forward to a vacation?

Maybe, its time for that and they are finally getting to celebrate Dhanush's success of bagging a National Award, now that Superstar is all fine. We'd say the vacation is much-needed after all that's happened over the last few days.

After taking good care and much rest, Rajinikanth will start off with KS Ravikumar's 'Rana' alongside Deepika Padukone.

Fans can now be all glee as their prayers have been granted.

Deepika, original choice for 'Rana'?

Right from the time a script is picked upon for Rajini, everything at the pre-production, production, post-production and probably even ages after his movie is out, everything that happens surrounding him is nothing but news.

Now the latest we hear is that, Bollywood damsel Deepika Padukone was not the initial choice for the film by the team. The first choice for the film was Bollywood blockbuster 'Dabangg' girl Sonakshi Sinha, who will now be introduced to Tamil cinema through 'Viswaroopam' where she will be cast opposite Kamal Haasan, the other pillar of Kollywood.

An amusing piece of information, isn't it?

It is said that, KS Ravikumar strongly believed that Sonakshi would be perfect for the role, but then Superstar had something else to say.

Rajinikanth, who has been a good friend of Sonakshi's father, Shatrughan Sinha right from their 'Asli Nakli' days in 1986, didn't feel it was right to share on-screen romance with Shatrughan's daughter.

Deepika Padukone was approached after this and she was only more than happy to don the role of 'Rana's lady love.

While Superstar has proved yet again to be a man of principles, we can also rejoice as both Deepika and Sonakshi are being introduced to us Tamil movie buffs through two biggies!

Rajini to shoot for 'Rana' from Sept.

We have been giving you steady updates on the Superstar right from the day he was admitted at Isabelle hospital, Mylapore. The icon, who is now in Singapore's Mount Elisabeth Center for treatment is progressing well. There were rumours about a renal transplant but they are just rumours as even the dialysis that was so long taking place has been stopped.

Now about 'Rana,' – the filming team had slowed the filming by a few days due to the Superstar’s ill health but now with the Superstar recuperating so well director K.S. Ravikumar is believed to go ahead with the film’s shooting briskly. The portions which do not require the superstar's presence will be shot first. The director is believed to shoot portions with the villain of the film, Sonu Sood, and then with the heroine of the film, Deepika Padukone.

The superstar is touted to join the filming team once he has completely regained his health back and after a restful and rejuvenating break. Some sources suggest that Superstar might join the team sometime during September. Director Ravikumar had planned the film in such a way that there would be extensive stunts to be performed in the film. But now considering the Superstar's health certain scenes have been altered and the team is waiting for the Superstar to give them the green signal for the changes.

Whatever said or done due to prayers of millions of ardent fans across the globe the Superstar is steadily getting well and will some be back in his home town to thank in innumerable fans worldwide!

Superstar in Singapore

Superstar Rajinikanth on Friday night flew to Singapore for “rest and rehabilitation” after being discharged from Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre in Chennai where he was admitted for respiratory problems.

If sources are to be believed, the numero uno star of Tamil cinema was wheeled in through the cargo entrance through gate number two even as media personnel and others waited around gate numbers five and six.

Accompanied by his family members, Rajinikanth waved to the fans who gathered at the airport before being escorted into the flight. He would be treated at the National Kidney Centre in Singapore, sources said.

While Rajini’s elder daughter Aishwarya said one of the reasons for going to Singapore was to provide her father some privacy, the actor's wife Latha told journalists that he was going to Singapore for rejuvenation. However, all family members and doctors maintained that the Superstar is fine.

The world cup cricket fever has reached its heights with India reaching the finals after a long time and that too the match being held in our very own Mumbai.

Many top politicians, President of India and President of Srilanka too are seen at the stadium enjoying the match. From Tollywood, Prince Maheshbabu, victory Venkatesh and Siddharth are seen at the stadium.

Several big industrialists including Ambanis, Vijay Mallya, IPL franchisee owners, actors and brand ambassadors were enjoying the biggest match in the cricket world.

This is however the first time Rajnikanth was found watching cricket match in a stadium in India. Though matches are held several times in Chennai and other parts of the country, he usually stayed away from the matches and sporting events. His presence has come as a major surprise and moral boost to cricket fans too.

Its all rumors about Rana

No other actors other than Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone have been confirmed for Ranaa, says KS Ravi Kumar. The media has been reporting frantically that Asin, Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan etc., are playing important roles in the film and later that these actresses have pulled out of the film for various reasons. Declining all this as mere rumors, KS Ravi Kumar has said that the media should only rely on official confirmation and not write news based on their own assumptions.
He added that he has not discussed the script with anyone till now and the star cast will be finalized very soon.

‘Endhiran’ clones ‘Ra. One’

Is the Bollywood Badshah ready with his reply to Super Star’s ‘Robo’? The first look of Shah Rukh Khan’s most ambitious project ‘Ra.One’ is out.

It is interesting to recall the genesis of ‘Endhiran ’ to know Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Ra.One’ better. You all knew director Shankar first went to SRK with the ‘Endhiran ’ concept and when he fell out with SRK over ‘creative differences’ in filming the sci-fi flick, our Super Star stepped in and saved the project. ‘What ‘Endhiran ’ did to Indian cinema is now folklore.
At that time Shah Rukh Khan had announced a similar project and that has taken shape now and ready to hit the marquee this year. Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal play the central characters in the film. Ra.One means ‘Random Access - Version 1.0’.

Much like the ‘Endhiran ’, SRK’s 'Ra.One' is also about Robots behaving like humans and has "breathtaking" visual effects. 'Ra.One' is also about good versus evil. According to sources, Shah Rukh will be seen in a double role in the film. One of his characters is that of a scientist who creates two robots - the good robot G.One (SRK) and the bad one Ra.One (Arjun Rampal).

When ‘Endhiran ’ released last year, the entire Indian film industry was in awe and the Bollywood started talking about ‘Ra.One’. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, ‘Ra.One’ has music by Vishal and Shekhar along with music maestro Ilaiyaraja.
Now that ‘Endhiran’ has spawned the first clone, will it behave better than ‘Endhiran’? Shah Rukh Khan has produced the film himself under his home banner Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Ra.One’ is marked as Diwali release.

‘Endhiran’ or ‘Ra.One’?

Rajinikant or Shah Rukh Khan?

Can’t wait till Diwali.

Special Post: Happy Birthday Superstar Rajinikanth!

Today is Superstar Rajinkanth's Birthday,Dec. 12. He was born on December 12, 1949. :) He is loved by many, for his movie starness, humanity, and simplicity. He was the first actor I became a fan of, still am. :) He was the guy I learned Tamil for,to watch his movies. After learning, I got to know more about him, and his movies. Wow, what a person. Its amazing to see how much people of Tamilnadu love him, he deserves to be loved like that. :) These days we all say that other actors will take Rajinikanths place, but really no one can, Rajinikanth is the one and only SUPERSTAR. I think its his personality that has made him a superstar, because of how he is so humble. He has done so much charity, and most of it has been under cover,as in no body knows what he did. And his punch dialogues are like WOW,so thought provoking and sensible. Not to forget  his intro scenes, for some of them I could just faint! Awesome intro scenes! He is also a very spiritual person, its great that he goes to the Himalaya mountains to meditate a lot :D.  Some of his best movies are( In my opinion):

1. Endhiran: This is a milestone in Indian Cinema, so obviously it is his best. Rajinikanth was great in the role of Scientist Vaseegaran and Robot Chitti. It was cool seeing him change from a nice, sweet robot to an evil robot who can destroy the world. But at the end you end up developing sympathy for the robot. He carries out both of the roles very well,as always :) Ash and him made a rocking pair :)

2.Sivaji- The boss: For its awesome story, and Rajinikanth. :) Though I think some other actress could have been better than Shriya, but she was ok not bad :) He was great as a confused, yet smart NRI. :) Love the concept of the movie :)  Also, LOVED Nayan's item number in the film :D Very folky :)

3. Baasha: It was a different thing for him to do a role like the one in Baasha, where once he is a don and the next thing we know he is an auto driver. But loved his role! He was good in the role of the don and a caring auto driver that will do anything for his siblings. Who can forget the song Naan Autokaran? It was one of the best songs of 1995! :D

4. Sri Raghavendra: Though I don't see this movie often, it is one of Rajinikanth's best performances of all time. I remember seeing it a couple of years ago for the first time, I was awed by his acting. I truly think he should have won the National Award for Best Actor that year, he totally deserved it. This film was Rajini's 100th film and it turned out to be a huge hit.

5.Thalapathi: When you watch this film, you will understand the true meaning of friendship. Its a tear jerking, Mani Ratnam film,in which Rajini excels in. In this film Rajini stars along side Mammooty , as his friend and his man. This movie definitely is one of the best Tamil movies made. Everything in this movie is heart touching, every single scene.
Here is my take on it: http://scooponthesouth.blogspot.com/2010/10/thalapathi.html

6. Padayappa- Who does NOT love this movie? If you are a Rajini fan, this movie is for sure in your top movies! It was a story penned by K.S. Ravikumar and it turned out to be a MASSIVE HIT! The scenes between Rajini's and Ramya K's character's arised so much intensity and suspense. Rajini's style was a HUGE plus point in the movie, the way he flips his cigar, the way he walks, talks everything!  :D Him and Soundarya made an awesome pair.! :D

7.Arunachalam- This was my first Rajinikanth movie ever! Loved him ever since. :) It was his style that caught my eye, and his face;its just too hard to describe his face. haha :D Really enjoyed the movie :) I really liked the song Ani Ani Anarkali :D
The song starts at 4:09

8. Chandramukhi- Though it was a remake, Rajini had his own style, of doing things in the movie :) I was totally mesmerized by the story :) Loved Jo's role a lot :) Him and Nayan actually looked pretty cute together :)
Here is my take on it: http://scooponthesouth.blogspot.com/2010/09/chandramukhi.html

9.Thillu Mullu- Love this movie for its comedy! Its hilarious! Just thinking about it makes me laugh! :D I think it was Rajini's first time taking of his mustache, he looked totally different after he did :D He definitely proved himself as a comedian also :)

10.Baba- Ok, even though this movie was not well received, I still liked it a lot, it had moral values to it. Also, it was what Rajinikanth wrote and he was happy about it, so I was happy for him and enjoyed the movie. Once again Avanga Style Adhiree! :D

11. Yejaman- Im pretty sure he stole every woman's heart back then as a very sweet, and caring husband! :D Nice, villagey role he had though. :) Meena looked toooo young compared to him.

12.Mannan- I liked this film cause I saw a different Rajinikanth then the other films. It was a normal Rajinikanth, who loved his mother a ton. Nice story too, different than others.

13.Ram Robert Rahim- I always see this movie when its on TV! Love it! Obviously, Rajini's character is my favorite! :)

I have seen more, but not all movies of Rajinikanth, but these 13 are the ones that stuck out to me.They were the ones that were watchable at ANY time :) Tell me if you have any personal favorites, will definitely check them out! :)

Finally, here are 2 songs that describe his awesomely insane style! :

WE LOVE YOU RAJINI!!! :) :)

Why Rajinikanth Rocks

Long but AWESOME Article ABOUT SUPERSTAR RAJINIKANTH!! Its Definitely worth a read :)
By: Manisha Lakhe
If anyone can make Chuck Norris look like a one-roundhouse-kick wonder, it is the southern superstar Rajinikanth. He’s larger than life. His fans would have you believe, he created God when he smiled.
It is not unknown for fans to fast before a Rajini release, as prayer to the Gods for success of his film. But, perhaps, in a part of the world that puts its film stars on very high pedestals, that’s not unusual. Try this.
If you could possibly wangle a first-day-first-show ticket to a Rajini starrer, you will witness something you won’t see in a movie theatre, ever.
Rajinikanth gets his very own credits styling. The screen will say ‘Superstar’, then his name will follow: ‘Rajini’ in English and then in Tamil, glowing in platinum. By the time your eyes adjust to the glare, you realise that you might also lose your hearing. Every member of the theatre audience is standing up, chanting ‘Thalaivar! Thalaivar!’ (which means ‘boss’ in Tamil). Then he will make his entrance: First you see the underside of his shoe; then dried leaves and debris will fly out of the way when the foot comes to earth.
Then the camera moves above ground and pauses, looking up, as a supplicant would to the saviour. That’s when the noise in the theatre reaches a crescendo and… the credits pause. And you see, at the foot of the screen, the regional distributor, the multiplex manager, and a few other dignitaries, resplendent in crisp white veshtis, are standing with a priest, who begins to chant prayers. Which end with the men in veshtis holding out their right hands and performing an aarti by burning camphor on their palms.
Then the crowd will settle down and the film will continue. Chances are, you’ll see the signature moves: The finger pointing skyward, deft handiwork with the sunglasses (in older movies, you’d have seen the cigarette toss; he doesn’t smoke on screen now, though). You’ll see gravity-defying jumps and hordes of bad guys being done in. Through it all, nothing will dislodge the Superstar’s smile and sunglasses.
Rajinikanth’s story is straight out of the movies: Boy from the wrong side of the tracks makes it big. Born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, he had a wild childhood and even wilder youth where his pranks got him into all kinds of trouble: He was thrashed by the cops for chasing girls and beaten by restaurant workers for trying to pass off an old six rupee bill for a table full of food that he and his gang had demolished. The tale of how he moved from bus conductor to stage to screen is too well know to retell. Suffice it to say that for all his hell-raising, there was a talent which his friends recognised and people noticed first on stage. His wild ways were temporarily tamed when playwright and director ‘Topi’ Muniappa offered him a chance to act in mythological moral plays. The story goes that he played the villainous Duryodhana so well, he was applauded by old men when he was ripping off Draupadi’s sarees.

Hindi cinema, which was yet to become Bollywood, was, like much of Indian cinema, entangled in social themes. South Indian cinema, especially, was dealing with morality issues, which was fantastic for a performer like Rajinikanth, because he played the villain with much glee (shades of this are visible even in his blockbuster hit Chandramukhi, where his demented, ‘Laka, laka, laka, laka’ still sends shivers down one’s spine). 16 Vayathinile (At the Age of 16) paved the way for unkempt villains who had a singularly disgusting laugh. Mithun Chakraborty ruled 80s Hindi cinema with the same brand of impossible heroics and made-for-the-front-row lines, and inspired similar devotion from his fans. But it took Rajinikanth to not just find the formula of punch-line-laden, impossible-action-packed movie persona, but to make it work for over three decades. And counting.
That he was talented was evident to the director K Balachander, who offered him a 15-minute role as a drunkard in Apoorva Raagangal (Rare Melodies), a Kamal Haasan starrer. Rajini made an impact as the man who muddies the love story by announcing a prior claim to the affections of the heroine just before she admits her love to the hero.
His mentor/teacher at the film institute, Puttanna Kanagal, gave Rajini his first Kannada movie Katha Sangama (Collection of Stories), where he played a baddie, a man who rapes a blind girl. Rajini played negative roles with ease, and it was just such a villainous role that first offered him a chance to flick his cigarette in the air and flourish his sunglasses. The film was Moondru Mudichu (The Three Knots), in which he played the friend who creates trouble between Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. The movie became a hit and established Rajinikanth as a super villain.
Rajinikanth, Sridevi and Kamal Haasan in a movie meant registers ringing at the box office. But Rajini was restless. He wanted to taste success in Bollywood as well. And though he worked with Amitabh Bachchan and other major stars, the Punjabi lobby dominated Hindi cinema. Dark-skinned Rajini chose wisely, and returned to his millions of fans. But note this: His Billa, an almost frame-by-frame copy of the Bachchan starrer Don, made more at the box office than the original. Billa, in fact, marked the beginning of the Rajini cult. It was clear from here on that he could carry the weight of a movie by himself.
What’s his secret? How does this 60-year-old grandfather, who makes no attempt to conceal the fact that the little hair he has left is very grey, transform miraculously - and credibly - into a limber young chap with a full head of shiny black hair, who wears jeans and whips up bad guys as easily as he polishes his sunglasses?
Partly it is the focus. After his initial experimentation, he did not attempt to stretch his range, as with the thespian grandstanding of his illustrious contemporary and great friend, Kamal Haasan; he stuck to what he did best, and made that all his own. (Recently, he said that the two of them had struck a gentlemen’s agreement to not cannibalise on each other’s territory.) He wanted to hear the chants of ‘Adhirudhile!’ (‘Rocking!’) from the cheap seats, and he worked hard to ensure that he kept earning it.
Partly, he’s a nice guy, someone who pays his dues, with a sense of responsibility. Like when Valli and Baba failed to bring in expected profits, he returned the money to the distributors who had made a loss, earning their loyalty forever.
Partly, it’s the simplicity of his image, the impossible, uncomplicated heroics that give the man on the street something to cheer. Like splitting an oncoming bullet into two with his knife, dodging both split halves, then smiling as each half hits a different baddie and his knife plunges into the heart of the man with the gun. Or how about saving the heroine, who is strapped to an electricity transformer, by running faster than electrical current after a vengeful villain switches the electricity on.
Certainly the whiplash actions, the mannerisms, the gimmicks, if you will, contribute to memorability.
But face it, there is no film school theory that explains why he can make the viewer not just suspend disbelief but chop it into little pieces, set fire to the remains and stomp on the ashes. There is no intellectual explanation for why the corny rhyming punch lines are such a hit.
Purely and simply, Rajinikanth makes the whole package work. Only he can.
That’s why there are thousands of dedicated fan sites, whose members would rend you limb from limb should you even think about dissing the Superstar.
That’s why even today, the script, the story, the dramatic lines, the costumes of a Rajinikanth movie - they’re all treated like a national security issue. Fan clubs go into frenzy at the slightest hint of a leak and with every movie Rajini and his producers laugh all the way to the bank.
That’s why when Kuselan, not as big a hit as Baasha or Padayappa, was shown across the USA, the candy giant M&M made specially-coloured bites of joy to be made into giant posters of the star; M&Ms were distributed to kids and his fans stampeded the halls as though it was the last show on Earth. In Japan, he is the ‘Dancing Maharaja’ - and to this day busloads of Japanese tourists stop by his Poes Road home in Chennai to take pictures. In Malaysia and Mauritius people expect to be granted leave from work when his movies release.
_
Applause? Sample this: In Baasha, he’s just asked his brother to step away from the action. The row of thugs is behind him. They drag swords and sickles and what have you from behind and advance towards him. He does not turn around; he’s seething mad though. And just when you think he will be diced by those swords, he bends down and pulls apart a hand pump and with the remains, proceeds to beat them all up, one thug after another, then he ties up the honcho to the lamp-post and beats him to pulp. With the light behind him making him look like some avenging God, he raises his finger and the whole theatre screams: ‘Naan oru dhadavai sonna, nooru dhadavai sonna maadiri!’ (If I say it once, it is like saying it a hundred times!)
It doesn’t matter whether you are originally from north of the Vindhyas, you find yourself whistling and stomping your feet, pretending there are villains there, crushed!
What’s next for Thalaivar? Will he, like so many film stars of the South, move into politics? He’s certainly a thinking man, and fans have admired his plunging into issue-based responses, like fasting during the Cauvery water division fight between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. But he has kept his followers guessing. ‘Yesterday I was a bus conductor,’ he said, ‘Today, an actor. Tomorrow who knows?’
Perhaps it will be spirituality that takes over. Despite the ever-growing bank account, he only seems to get more humble each year. Not for him the carefully publicised temple visit photo-ops of the Bollywood brigade. People who know him say he goes on pilgrimages and visits temples disguised as a beggar. (And, a possibly apocryphal story goes, he is so convincing that once a woman pressed some money into his hands. When she realised who the mendicant really was, she apologised. Rajini, they say, kept the note as a reminder and as a reward for his acting skill.)
His Endhiran (in theatres October 1) released a trailer that was shown in a special 10 am screening. Tickets cost Rs 70. It was sold out. A trailer. Could anyone else command such a following?
I can bear witness that his star power is intact. There was this time I was in Chennai, and was headed to the airport to catch a flight. But my cab ran into a massive traffic jam. Apparently the cops had blocked off the road because the then-Chief Minister was to land in an hour or so, and it had been deemed essential that her road home be kept clear by simply not allowing any other traffic to move. Certain I’d miss my flight, I was panicking.
That’s when I saw the man himself, talking to the police about three or four cars ahead. They didn’t relent. So Rajini simply stepped out of the car, took out a pack of cigarettes, lit one and sat on the bonnet. Within minutes, the road kept empty for the CM was swarming with people who had come out of nowhere. Clearly the black-caped lady would have as much of a wait as the rest of us. The policemen knew what was good for them. They pleaded with him to get back in and waved him and quite a few other cars through, my cab included. I made my flight, thanks to Rajinikanth.
