The 'Subramaniapuram' girl is back!

We all saw her as Thulasi in 'Subramaniyapuram'. Post this Sasi Kumar directed venture Swati Reddy has been quite choosy about her signing films. The actress recently revealed in an interview that her hiatus after working in 'Subramaniapuram' has been because she received similar roles to play in most of the offers that came her way, and she did not want to be type-casted.

Swati is now joining the same Sasi Kumar-Samuthrakani duo in the latter's directorial venture 'Porali'. The film sees director-actor Sasi Kumar in the lead with Swati playing female lead. The film is touted to deal with the suffering and the troubles faced by Sri Lankan Tamils.

Sources close to the actress reveal that she will be playing the role of an independent city-bred girl in the film. Swati had been nominated for the best actress category for her performance in 'Subramanyapuram'. She has also won a couple of awards for her roles in Telugu.

Now joining the same successful team, we can just hope it works out for the better for this Russian born actress!

'Porali' is rapidly progressing and will most probably hit theatres during the last part of 2011....

Three hits of Tollywood

Though the year 2010 ended on a bitter note with huge losses for Tollywood, January 2011 brought some respite in the form of three films that worked at the box office. If our sources in film industry are to be believed, 'Mirapakaya' of Raviteja is doing good business even after two weeks after its release.

'Golconda High School' starring Sumanth evoked good response from multiplex audience and ditto with Nani's 'Ala Modalaindi'.

'Ala Modalaindi' a slapstick comedy with hero playing 'Gay' shade charecter, released without much publicity is running housefull in several theatres and many a places, theatres have been increased for this movie as the collections are encouraging. The word of mouth publicity for this film is strong and young audience are thronging to theatres.

As per the latest report, 'Mirapakaya' collected Rs 25.4 crore in two weeks. So, January this year proved lucky for the industry with already three decent hits. Hope more blockbusters will follow this year.

Raviteja in KSD Appalaraju

It is well aware that Sunil is playing the hero, while Swati and Sakshi are playing the heroines in ‘Katha, Screenplay, Darsakatvam Appalaraju’ directed by Ram Gopal Varma and produced by Kiran Kumar Koneru on the banner of Shreya Productions.

Several dupes are being used for the film. However, it is reliably learnt that Raviteja is playing a small role in this movie and presently some scenes are being shot with Raviteja.

Does it mean Ram Gopal Varma has respect to Raviteja or treating him as if he is not greater than a dupe?

Subramaniapuram in Hindi?

GV Prakash is soon to score the music for two Bollywood flicks and interestingly both these films are being directed and produced by Anurag Kashyap. During his visit to Chennai recently for the audio launch of Easan, Anurag had said that he is impressed with Sasi Kumar’s Subramaniapuram and requested him for DVD with sub titles.

Does that mean a Hindi remake of Subramaniapuram from Anurag is in the offing and GV Prakash is to score the music for it?
The buzz, however, is that GV Prakash will compose music for a romantic film, with strong importance to music, and another film to be produced by Anurag.

A dream come true: Sunil

After ‘Maryada Ramanna’ Sunil is in cloud nine! He does not believe the turn of things that are happening in his life. The comedian turned hero said he was highly elated to be part of Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Appalraju’.

Saying that his life is seeing a lot of unexpected things off late, Sunil said he still could not believe his luck to be acting for a RGV film. Sunil recollected that in the struggling stages of his career, he was rejected from playing a character in ‘Prema Katha’, one of RGV’s earlier movies starring Sumanth. But now things have changed and he thanked RGV for the opportunity presented to him.

Sunil was quick to tell that he was a die hard fan of Sri Devi. He even recollected a memorable incident in his childhood when his mother had taken a photograph of the beautiful actress. Sunil said he was extremely happy as she had come to clap for his movie.

Talking more about his movie, Ram Gopal Varma added that ‘Appalraju’ is about struggling directors in Hyderabad. He said that this movie is for all those who come to the industry with big dreams. RGV pointed that this movie is his personal story.

The guests at the movie launch of ‘Appal Raju’ were Nitin, Sumanth, Naga Chaitanya, Rana, Veteran director Raghavendra Rao, directors Boyapati Srinu, B.Gopal, Srinu Vytla, the movie’s lead pair Sunil and Swathi, along with Nagarjuna, Sri Devi and her husband Boney Kapoor.

It’s an emotional moment: RGV

Ram Gopal Varma, in an emotional tone said, the return to directing a Telugu cinema with his ‘Appalraju’ after 12 years, was an emotional moment to him.

RGV was extremely happy as Nagarjuna and Sri Devi made themselves present to grace the occasion of the launch of his new movie ‘Katha Screenplay Darsakathvam: Appalraju’. He also candidly said that he used to wait in long queues to watch Sri Devi’s movies and jokingly said never for a Nag’s movie.

Nagarjuna, the hero who introduced RGV to Telugu cinema, said he was extremely pleased to see RGV return to Telugu film industry. Nag also added that he saw a few clippings of ‘Raktha Charitra’ and is excited about the movie. He welcomed RGV to the Telugu film industry and said an overwhelming statement that ‘Appal Raju’ should be a bigger hit than ‘Shiva’. On RGV’s entry, Nag also said newer technicians and new directors will come to Telugu cinema.

The chief guest of the occasion, the beautiful Sri Devi came along with her husband Boney Kapoor. She was welcomed with the popular number ‘Ori Bramha Devadudo’ from ‘Govinda Govinda’ and was elated to be part of the event as she has not been present in any of the movie launches that have happened in the last 10 years. She thanked RGV to invite her and it was an opportunity to meet her old friends and colleagues in Hyderabad. Sri Devi ended saying that this movie should celebrate Silver Jubilee and she would definitely be part of that event as well.

Boney Kapoor expressed similar views and wished the film’s unit and hero Sunil all the best.

Sunil’s heroine in the movie is Colours Swathi who was excited to be part of RGV’s movie. She wished the whole team of ‘Appal Raju’, good luck!

It was a grand and pompous affair at Annapoorna Studios for the launch of ‘Appalraju’.
